I hate the pill!!

Ugh. I want Nuva Ring. But I can't afford it, my insurance doesn't kick in for 90 days, and even then it's a name brand so it's 30 bucks where the pill is 10. I hate the pill though! It's so damned impossible to remember. And I'm not going back to IUD because that thing made me bleed and I hate bleeding.

Anybody have any tips on remembering to take this damn thing at the same time every day?

I hate the pill!!

I'm horrible remembering it too. Just now I had to check my pack and see if I took Sunday's pill. I have my cell phone alarm set for my pill time, but sometimes I'm not near it or don't hear it and still forget. I don't wear a watch so my cell phone is the next best thing that usually goes where I go. I take my pill at 5:30pm. After much trial and error, it seems to be the best time.

Morning is bad because sometimes on weekends I sleep in, lunch isn't always the same time, and I don't always get to bed at the same time, plus I'm usually busy before bed and would end up forgetting anyway. 5:30pm is right after work, but before the time I'd be in class on Tues. and Wed.. On weekends I sometimes forget, but usually I'm near my phone so it works out.

I take mine at bedtime each night. I keep the pills right on the table next to my bed, so I see them as I turn out the light. I do not go to bed at the exact same time each night, but my doctor says within a few hours is fine, and I think someone on here said even longer is okay. I have rarely forgotten a pill until morning, I think twice in about 2 years and each time, I remembered when I saw them as I woke up.

I'm going to try the cell phone thing. I used to take it right before bed, but now I'm working nights (like right now! lol) and I don't get home until around 2 am, and I never turn the light on because that would wake up Matt (still in my bed, at least he's got a LITTLE bit of baby left in him! lol) and in the mornings, I'm so disoriented I'd never think to grab a pill before I hop out of bed.

Ugh. I so miss the ring. It was perfect, as little fuss from me as possible, and I could still have that stranglehold control of my cycle, unlike the IUD, where your periods were never on the clock.

You said the IUD made you bleed... was it the copper one? Because after the first couple of months on Mirena, most women have their bleeding reduced by 90%.

Otherwise, some PPs have funding for underinsured/uninsured women to get BC. Or you could move to WA! We pay 100% for all methods for moderate-income people. Okay, maybe that's a bit extreme.

I was on the ring, but I am going off birth control for a bit because I am not having sex with anyone right now and I have condoms. I LOVED the ring, when I get money again, I am going back on it. And I don't have health insurance. I got the ring at Planned Parenthood for $23...

Oh, when I was on the pill. I was in high school, so I took it everyday after school (3:15), then I always worked at 4 on the weekends, so I would remember to take it going to work.

You can also buy pill timers at pharmacies. The first pill I ever went on, came with a pill timer in the supply, and without that I would have been lost. It was a little (pink and flowery, yuck) thing the size of a credit card, that had a button on the front. You held in the button for 5 seconds to set it, and then an alarm would go off every 24 hours from that set time.

I was on Mirena, and I was on it for 6 months, and I bled for 6 months. It was spotting, but it was still blood and still a pain in the ass. When I was young, up until I got pregnant, I would have my periods last for 10 days minimum, so anything that makes me bleed just...I can't stand it.

Hmm...move to Washington....well, it's only across the country! LOL

BTW, I started using the cell phone, and today I remembered my pill right at noon! :) I may just go to PP when I get paid and ask what they charge for the ring. I'll have to figure something out, because this month's pack of pills was the last one I could get on my insurance at my old job. The new job's benefits don't kick in until 90 days.

That just sucks. It's always a bummer to be the one that gets the odd side effect.

Does your new insurance cover BC?

I'm pretty sure it does, but I can't be certain yet. I haven't been presented with the plans because I'm not eligible. They send them to you and all the options and stuff when it's time to sign up.
