Well today andrew (my bf) and I went to Kay jewelers to look at the engagement rings, we'd been looking for awhile and we finally decided to get one, its a 1/3 of a carat, which is just big enough for me, but not too big, its just a cute little diamond solitaire. But afterwards, we were telling everyone that we had picked it out and all they could say was that I shouldnt be involved in picking it out! Its going to be MY ring, that I'll be wearing for a long period of time, and we both think that i should be involved in choosing it. What I dont understand is why people think this is such a bad move, I still dont know when or how he will propose, id rather know its coming then have it thrown on me out of no where. I just dont get it.
I agree with you. I mean what would you do if he picked out a ring by himself and you didn't like it? We proposed without a ring, then went and picked it out together.
I picked out my engagement ring--I know what I like, and I knew what I wanted (as far as the ring went... :oops: ...I dumped the guy) But, that aside, I think it's a great idea to pick it together. I mean, in marriage, you have to learn how to make big decisions together. It's a great start.
pfft. Why shouldn't you be involved in picking out the ring? You'll be the one wearing it, right? And if you know you guys want to get married, it's not like it'll be a huge shocker when he does propose. My younger sister is picking out her ring. She and her BF have been together two years, and decided they'll get married after she finishes college. I don't think there's anything wrong with deciding to get married rather than having the question "popped" at you by someone that maybe you never even thought about marrying.
And when you're deciding to get married, there's no reason why you shouldn't pick out your own jewelry.
i wouldnt wante to wear something i didnt like, why should anyone else?
BD and I are currently ring shopping, and I have heard all the same things, but really, BD isn't interested in picking it out on his own.... Something can look beautiful in a box, and really funky on you, or funky in the box and beautiful on you!

what i did was let him know what i like and then he had ideas to go with. even with my now BF i did the same thing, i sent him pictures of rings i liked so he knew what sort of thing i liked. idk i think you should be involved in the process but maybe not pick out your ring... but whatever makes you happy b/c like the other girls said you have to wear it
OMG so be involved. My partner and i are "looking" and yeah i want to be involved and he wants me to be involved. He hates the whole idea of even shoping let alone picking something that id like by himself. My friends think im getting way ahead of myself because i want to get engaged but i think there all just jelous. Do what you like chick its YOUR dicision not theres!
Seff sent me a few pictures and asked me which on eI liked best....now it's a-sittin' on me finger :D What I didn't know he'd do was get a silver band--I LOVE silver! I definitly prefer it over gold (white or yellow) so I was still a little suprised eeven though I knew what it sprta looked like :lol:
good lord, "a bad decision"? your friends think they have the right to intrude upon your shopping trips?! I perfir to be surprised but then, i have a princess complex and i also enjoy unicorns and pink ponies. I think it's neat that he wasn't thretened and that he wanted to give you something you'd really like.

I picked out my ring! Sure I would have liked some big surprise and him having the perfect ring but I know that would never happen lol I have a diamond solitaire aswell and I love it!I never wear it though because I am always changing poopy bums and I accidentally scratched him a few times! :(
