I've been posting a lot of the opinion section of my paper lately. Abortion has really taken its place in the headlines around here. So I decided to write a letter to the editor. Here it is.

and heres my letter
Readers comment on abortion
In response to the articles on abortion lately, including Beth Quinn's articles, I have to say I'm happy to see this issue pushed into our local media. As someone who experienced an unplanned pregnancy at 19, I can relate. And I'm not the only one.
According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, almost 1 million teenage girls become pregnant each year. As of 1996, four in 10 of those pregnancies ended in abortion. Most young people weren't around to remember a time when we didn't have that option. We need to stand up and fight to keep that option. Not only for teenagers who become pregnant, but for all women who are placed in the same position that I and many other woman are in each year.
While I continued my pregnancy, I can say I'm a mother by choice. I want to make sure that other women have that same choice in the years to come.

nice.
short and sweet
Your letter was perfect, simple and gets the point across.
Thumbs up to your letter..
and WOW at the final Letter to the Editor on that page:
I don't even know where to start. I sincerely hope Clare Coleman sends a letter in response.
Oh, I just love this. What does being a mother of seven children have to do with knowing how "immmoral" PP is? Did they camp out on her lawn while she was pregnant, or sneak into her house at night to try to perform a stealth abortion?
cool! its good one :D
That's a great letter. I hope they print it.
Nice letter.
This one I found absurd:
What the hell is he talking about? He makes no sense.
it makes sense to him.
in his mind gun = maleness= penis
yeah, he's a moron.
so...i have to own a gun to prove people shouldn't own guns?
Why do they teach they teach the chimpanzees to write? I know it amuses the zookeepers, but they need to keep the letters to themselves.
roflmfao.
ahaha, sometimes... i just don't understand, the metaphors that men use to talk about abortion.
I was having a discussion with my dad about it recently, and he isn't 100% anti-choice, but he might as well be because he talks about women having an abortion, the same way he talks about someone throwing out a pop can instead of recycling it! - - UHH....
so, i wanted to bring this up because i don't know if anyone knows how this has been argued in the anti-choice/pro-choice debate.
Like, government incentives ie: money for choosing to go through with your pregnancy and plan an adoption?
I just had never heard anyone bring that up before. And I'm curious if anyone has ever heard of anything like that happening...
Wow. Paying women to plan an adoption? That's a new one on me. I do like your letter to the editor. Gutsy and eloquent. :)
That's my favorite part. :)
