going to be fired. anybody o to school and not work?

so i think i'm about to be fired. more BS polotics than job performance, really. the whole office is run by a family and i'm one of the few people in my departemnt who is not a family member or friend of the family. it's very confuseing to me right now, trying to sort through this on my own to figure out what went wrong. what was my fault and what really was just BS polotics.
anyhow, i'm thinking of trying to go back to school. this is a sore point with my family as in my younger, crazier days, i went to college twice and screwed up so badly i had to leave. i think i can get help from voc rehab, who will pay for school plus 350 per month in expensis which is only 50 bucks less than my rent. is there anything else i can get on top of this? i know there re grants and whatnot but i think that sense they are federal money you can't "double dip"
does anyone know anything about "critical fields of study" ? I know there are some fields of study in which the fedral government gives more grants or essentially turns loans into grants.
i'm looking for as many ways as possible to get what assistance i can. my ex lives hundreds of miles away and my family has told me not to expect any help if i go back to school so i'm worried about childcare.
what sorts of things have you done to make ends meet in school?

You know, it's funny, bd was in a very similar situation, which has motivated him to make the same choice you're considering. Depending on the week/month, he's been sure he's about to get fired...but it hasn't happened yet. Things have calmed down a bit, but the drama is sure to flare up again, and we're hoping we can be supporting ourselves with financial aid and minimal work before that time.

As a single mama, I definately think you're right to try to finance your education without work if at all possible. I don't know anything about voc rehab, but I know that most schools offer institutional aid in addition to federal and state aid, and that it can usually help cover living expenses as well as tuition.

For us, we're gonna both be working while in school, but I've given a lot of thought to it and am thinking I'll try to get a grant for an unpaid internship, because that time spent working will actually be a good thing if it can help me accomplish something when I graduate. If that's not possible, I'd rather go into more debt than take a retail job because it's not worth being away from my family if it isn't gonna give me experience around my field.

If you don't already have a daycare subsidy, apply for one right away. You can give them an estimate of your income...or lack of income, for now anyway. It's better to get on the list then change your info if you need to.

I was flipping through a booklet in the waiting room at the food stamp office, it listed a ton of scholarships--the ones that are grants if you do public service work, need-based, merit-based, etc. Maybe you could try and find a similar resource?

go in to your local community college/universities financial aid department and ask them what you need to do. undoubtedly you can access loans and probably lots of grant money as well. i go to school and work minimally, living primarily on financial aid.

about unemployment. I'm not sure. I am looking for a new job now, while i still have this one. if i don't find a job before they pitch me then i;m almost 100% i'll be eligible for it. the thing is, it doesn't seem like they're going to fire me now. strange. i think i may just find something else and go back to school. you know? seems better in the long run.
that's a good idea about where to check for pamphlets snd info. so many other places have resources listed that are mostly merrit based or are for high school seniors.
