top 10 things you need for your newborn.

what's the first ten things you bought that are the most important?
besides the usual stuff: diapers, wipes, crib, etc..

Honestly, a newborn doesnt really need much.. In the beginning my son slept with me (he didnt use his crib till he was a few months old). I found onesies and sleepers the most convenient clothing for a newborn. Also, the bouncy chair and swing were necessities in our house.. my son was a fussy baby and he actually still loves his swing at 7 months old. Oh and I went through like 10 receiving blankets a day i swear when he was a newborn.. he had to be swaddled all the time and would spit up or his diaper would leak quite often. The sling was also a very handy item to have and still is :)

sling, cloth diapers, and breasts... that's about all you need.

I wouldn't call a crib the "usual stuff" since it's not always needed, especially at first.

My baby nursed (and still does exclusively), we coslept, but we use disposible diapers/wipes so we need those. He wears a onesie most days but likes his sleepers at night. We do have a carseat and needed that. We also have a swing that is handy but I got along without it for about a month. We use the baby towels/washcloths but only because I was given/still had a bunch. We use receiving blankets for burp cloths.

I think most of the "must have stuff" is pushed on parents because it's a money maker.

DD only really wore clothes when we went out...still does. I just feel like it's such a waste most days, she just drools all over them now anyway! But it depends on what season you have them in, the temp you keep your house at stuff like that. I was lucky enough to have my babe in the summer so clothes were optional!

carseat, only because in most states you need one to leave the hospital with.

onesies, thats all my son wore for the first few months.

swings and bouncy chairs are nice but only if your kiddo uses them. some kids love them others hate them. so not necessarily a necessity.

some of it just depends on your parenting. bottles or boobs? cosleep or crib? lots of things have double uses... cloth diapers, towels, blankets all have mulitple uses. use your imagination.

My mom and I where talking about this today. Avoid the Diaper Genie like the plauge....sure--it seals away odors....until you open that thing up to change the bag

Some of the stuff out there is really dumb anyways :?

My damn diaper genie didn't even work. Actually, nobody I've talked to has ever had a working diaper genie.. We got an oversized trash can with a swinging lid. Way more realistic. Smells lovely too.

i find my play pen to be the most useful thing ive purchased.

Its the best because its soo compact when its packed up, and easy to travel with. Soo when we go to relatives, and he needs a nap, its up in two seconds, and hes sleeping on a firm, protected surface. And its great for when we go camping!!!! Now that hes mobile (sooo this dosnt really apply to infants) its great to have, for when I need to be in the kitchen, and cant be chasing him away from the dvd player, air vent ecte. ect. ect.

i have a play pen too, i used to live in a house with 3 floors so i always kept the play pen downstairs for her to have naps in, so i didnt have her up the crib. i find it useful too when we go to visit bd's family out of town to take with us, but it's not really necessary, i would just sleep her on the bed if i didnt have it. Someone bought it for me, and its useful, but i probably wouldnt have bought one otherwise.

i just put dirty diapers in the trash outside ASAP.

N was born in winter so blankets were a big deal, but only good for about a month because he wouldn't let me swaddle him after that.

a relative gave me the avent microwave bottle sterilizer. it's not necessary at all but it saved A LOT of time and i used it constantly during the first few months. N was in the nicu for a week so i sterilized EVERYTHING, i was so paranoid.

Yeah, i think i jumped the gun a little with the whole pack and play thing. Lol i gotta remember that not everyone goes camping ect!!

Another thing I found really helpful was my boppy. I took it every where, it saved me from bending over all the time to breastfeed, and it had a cover that was easy to wash. And the coolest thing I have, is this conair sound machine. It makes a heartbeat sound, and it really helped soothe him...it also had a white noise sound...which was useful for soothing aswell.

whats a boppy? some sort of sling yes? i think its cool the diifferent words that americans and british people use. like we call a pacifier a dummy and a stroller a buggy, diapers are nappies etc.

a boppy is a pillow. you can use it to breastfeed or bottlefeed. it sits on your lap. baby can use it to sit up or lay on.
