I think this belongs here. . . . WIC:
YAY!
im at it again! omg! i just called the office and i feel like its such a f***** hastle to even get started with it. . . since i have my son i have to get all his physical information, and mine because im pregnant. so i guess my real question is. . .
with a child and a pregnancy how much would i benefit from WIC?
i stopped getting WIC during my pregnancy cuz i got a raise which screwed me but now with "3" in the family i qaulify.
Is it worth the hastle to get WIC? is it worth it? how much food would i get? what kind of food? how much formula to they give you?
i need to know before because before i can make an appointment i have to call my dr. his dr. and fax all this info to her. and with the job i have NO time off the telephones working to make personal calls during the day.
THANKS!! :)

youll benifit alot just for the formula i saved like 150 a month on formula and the milk for andrew they gave me like 5 gallons a month thats alot. you should take the time to do it it will be beneficial to you good luck!
Here are the WIC food packages, you should be able to see what you get based on your sons age, and your pregnancy.

I agree with momtobe19.
I used to hate going to the appt's and re-certifications, but since I formula fed, it really helped me out.
It can be annoying, but it's worth it, and at least you don't have to go every month. :)
I'm planning on breastfeeding my baby and Im still on WIC. I think it helps out even though it can be a pain. It gives me all the food now while im pregnant and the package goes up for a breastfeeding mom, so I think even if you dont formula feed its still worth it if you can get it!
well i guess since im pregnant and i have a kiddo i will benefit!! thanks girls!! :) now to gather all this damn info for the WIC lady! LOL!
yeah i think it is worth the hassle. i am breastfeeding, and i get a good sized food package, and they also gave me a breast pump. so yeah...there are benefits.
even if you breastfed. say you do half and half and stock up on formula.. I said I started formula at 6 months but really didnt till 9 months. I have never needed to buy any.. just a hint
Why should she stock formula if she isn't going to need it? That doesn't makes sense. If anything it could harm her breastfeeding supply since having it around makes it easier to supplement. I don't agree with this at all.
I prefer getting the larger food packages since it helps feed me so I can feed my baby. I also like being on WIC since it does help my family out, I upped the cheese amount since we didn't drink the milk fast enough and it helped to talk with the counsellor about what we used/needed to make a package that suited us more than the standard one.
Val -
just to let you know and well anyone else. . you can freeze milk and defrost it when needed(leaving it out a few hours or just placing in the fridge) and it does taste fine. same with cheese. i do it.
with my son unfortuanetly he wasnt able to breastfeed due to my inverted nipples and well he just wouldnt take to it and i just cried becuz of stress so im going to try to breastfeed this time as well. i dont know how well baby will take. hopefully take well. i hate formula :( its a pain but owell!
Thanks for the tip :D
If you do go to WIC ask if they have a breastfeeding counsellor (some areas are good about breastfeeding, others- not so much) and talk to her about the issues you had last time. If you can I'd also look into a LLL meeting in your area so that you have some help beforehand and people to turn to during. It may help you to relax this time to have people who will work with you and support you :D
Val - last time AT the hospital (not from WIC) they had a consultant come and help me with breastfeeding. wat help this lady WASNT. see the thing was when she had her kids and breastfed, she had NO problems so it sucked she didnt understand my frustration. she was horrible. not saying everyone that had no problems doesnt understand my fustrations but this women just really only knew how to look and hold my tits i swear! anways . . . the nurse had trouble when she breastfed her kids so she offered to help but by then i was drained and gave up :(
