Rh Immunoglobulin

So, I'm Rh-negative. My partner is Rh-positive. I'm pretty sure I don't want any more kids, and I'm certain I don't want to go through another pregnancy. Is there any reason to take an Rh immunoglobulin injection? Are there any risks of taking the injection?

i am RH- as well, I dont know what my bd's blood type was, but Alexa has the same blood type as me. i got the Rhogam shot while pregnant, but since her bloodtype was the same, i didn't need the shot after i had her. I also got it when i was miscarring. I'm not 100% sure about all the effects if you are definatly sure you don't want anymore kids then i don't see why not getting the shot will harm you.

I am Rh-, and got the shot during my pregnancy. I have mommy brain now, so I can't remember exactly what it was all about. If you're absolutely sure you don't want any more children, then I *think* it's unnecessary. I'm not sure how your dr/midwife will feel about that, though. I don't remember really being offered a choice.

No, it's still a good idea. For starters, it makes it MUCH easier to transfuse you in future if you don't have anti-Rh antibodies. Second, it's hard to say what you may want to do in future, and having just finished an isoimmunized pregnancy that I would have sworn I would never have, I would keep my options open (I'm isoimmunized to Kell, but it's the same situation except there's no RhoGam for Kell). But that's me.

There is a theoretical risk of blood-borne pathogens to RhoGam, since it's a blood product. But it's theoretical; there are no documented cases of BBP disease related to RhoGam.

I am rh-, bd and Eric are rh+. The reason why they told me I needed it during the first pregnancy is because I could have had an early miscarriage and not known about it. I would just do it, it is a pain (literally) but not a really big deal.

i am also rh- , i had the needle with both my children. the main thing it does is stop your blood from making antibodies against + blood type. so if you got pregnant again, and you didnt take the needle (if urs and babys blood mixed a bit during last pregnancy) than your blood would try and kill the fetus. meaning, you would keep miscarrying. its better to get it JUST in case you want to have another baby down the road.
