Does breast feeding really make you lose weight faster??!
Breastfeeding helps your uterus contract down to its usual size, so in that since, yes, it does help you become smaller more quickly. It is also true that it uses up about 500 calories a day, but you're going to want to eat those extra calories too - your body needs fuel to make the milk (and to do everything else that comes with being a new mama.) It's a great idea to breastfeed - it's really what is healthiest for your baby. I don't think of it as a device weight loss, though, and I'd reccommend against worrying too much about losing weight right after you have your baby regardless of whether or not you breastfeed.
I think there are some stickies about the benefits of breastfeeding - you should check out the "feed that baby" forum.

i lost all my pregnancy weight by breastfeeding I am assuming that is what helped with my first son i was smaller than prepregnancy weight the same week I had him and second child i was back down to prepreg weight within a couple of weeks this time i gained 30 lbs and lost 50 lbs by my six week checkup i attribute it to breastfeeding and c/section recovery b/c it made me not want to eat for a few days and encouraged me to eat better. I think i have heard that bf moms dont need to eat an additonal 500 cal a day but just eat healthy regular meals and take a vitamin. in my experience the most weight loss occurs the first three months since then its really slowed down. i consider the weight loss to be a added benefit :D

I didnt seem to loose any extra weight at all until i stopped breastfeeding...
I was soo excited, because everyone told me that breastfeeding would make me loose all those extra pounds fast.....but for me, it didnt work like that. But, it was almost instantaneously that i lost my weight when i stopped breastfeeding..I couldnt beleive it.

I think it really does help you to lose the weight.. Or at least appear smaller, since your uterus will be going back into place fast. By my 6 week check-up all 28 lbs. I gained were gone. However, I still think I held onto some extra fat stores somewhere, that left when my daughter started eating more solids and having some bottles of fomula as a supplement. I think that your uterus will contract sooner, and your stomach will appear flatter then if you didn't breastfeed.. but you may hold onto some fat stores for nursing.

breastfeeding does make your uterus shrink faster and it burns about 300-500 calories a day.
but- you will probably eat more than 300-500 calories extra just to produce your milk.
i lost most of my baby weight after childbirth. but once i quit breastfeeding i went all the way down to my prepregnancy weight.
