ok i will start my post with a lil background... well i am classified as morbidly obese and i didn't have that bad of a pregnancy with my son, no gestational diebetes or anything really... and i have PCOS... my doc has suggested that loosing some weight might help in conceiving... but my SO and i are still having sex and TTC... soo my question is... what kind of exercising is safe for me to start doing now (i am at cycle day 21) since i might be preggers and i might not... thanks

It's a myth that you have to alter exercise routines during the first trimester. You can still safely exercise during pregnancy. If you want to err on the side of caution, I suggest using something like an elliptical or a glider which has less impact throughout the body then running. Or you can get a pregnancy yoga or fitness DVD that's meant for pregnancy and start doing that now.
Awesome, I didn't know that was a myth!
It's not until you hit your second trimester that you need to start trying to find other ways of exercising, but even then, exercising is good for pregnancy. Basically by second and third trimester it's nothing that puts you flat on your back for long periods, (heehee), uhm, nothing that is high impact such as jogging or treadmills, nothing that you need good balance for, like cycling, skiing, etc, or nothing that can cause direct impact to your stomach.. like. uhm. trampolining. Which would just be a bad idea anyways.
Other then that you can exercise up until you give birth. Something as simple as swimming is a good exercise, doesn't exert you too much, doesn't put hard impact on you, etc. Water aerobics would be a good idea.
I had the a-ok to keep doing my pilates until my first trimester was over. Now I am looking for pregnancy DVDs to do at home, as well as I bought a cheapo glider (like an elliptical but not)
thanks for the responses ladies, but i didn't exercise before. in the last week i have started walking (i walked 7 miles on monday), aqua aerobics, and yoga... are those safe to do?
Yup. They are safe. The best thing you could do (esp. if you're not used to exercise) is try to swim a few lengths. Just do as many as you can, even half lengths, and work it up over time. S
wimming can be done until the day you deliver (or even as you deliver. ha!) since it is a virtually impact-less exercise that requires no balance, no chance of falling, and is not too strenuous.
I've heard that swimming is good for you, too. It takes the strain of baby weight off your body while you're in the water.
i think I told you that on yahoo, but either way, there you go.
Good luck!
I swim and I love it. I also do a yoga/pilates class and that is a lot of fun. I wish I had exercised in my pregnancy, I think I would have felt better. Good Luck Ann! If you'd like I can send you my swim workout.
Charlie that would be awesome!! i would love that!!
