BD/CS/where does he work?

On the 21st i finally got everything settled with custody/guardianship & child support. Overall i am happy with the outcome because i got sole custody and guardianship which was my most important thing. The part thats frusterating to me is that because bd didnt respond to my application when he was served, the amount of child support he has to pay was just automatically based on what he would be making at a full time, minimum wage job. I know, without even having to actually know, that he makes more than that, but i dont have the actual proof, and i dont know how to go about figuring it out. The judge was really nice and fair to me but she also couldnt set any arrears until she had more information about his actual income, meaning until i am able to figure that out, he doesnt have to pay anything for the first 19 months of joshuas life. When i recieve my order in the next couple of weeks i am going to register with the FMEP which is a BC government funded company that tracks child support payments and takes the action necessary to enforce it. However, in order for them to do that they need all this information about him and its all stuff that i dont have. I guess what im asking is, is there anyway to figure out where he is working, or even living right now?

In the United States, the government has the New Hire Reporting Act. When an employer hires a new employee, they have to report it to the government. I probably got the name of the act wrong, but you get the gist. Does Canada have anything similar? Obviously this won't help if he works under the table.

Also, are you on civil terms with any of his relatives? Maybe they could tell you at least where he's living.

BTW, my CS amount is also based on BD working full-time at minimum wage. I think it stinks since he has made more, but it was I either settle for that or get nothing. At least after 3 years, CSE does a free review here.

girl I just had my child support case closed in the state of florida after 3 yrs of not being able to find the other parent or any info on his income....i feel you. there is no way unless you have his social security number and you can pay someone to pull up records of his employment, but theres a fault with that because cs will already be running his social looking for info to update your case.

U could hire a pi to follow him to his job like I was gonna do with j's dad but they are really expensive. you can do a white pages search for him, or an online search which might cost you like 30 bucks, but if hes lying about his residance or using a different one or working under the books, a pi is prob the way youll get the most information.

I know in Canada when I was a restaurant manager I was allowed to give out the length of employment, and the rate they were being paid to people who called about a refrence, nothing more, but those two things I had to give.

So you'd think, the employer has to give that info if the government requests it.

The New Hire act thingy is great if the employer is on the up & up.
My ex's employer is not.

BD's generally suck, I'm sorry.

I went through the BC court system too, and I got my BD's wages imputed above minimum wage. I just told them everything I'd heard him say about his recent employment (all of his jobs in the last year), and I think what really helped was that I told them the industry average for his job (being a mover). I was aiming for higher, because at the time he was actually doing overtime every week, but I was really happy with what the judge decided.

If you can show them that people doing the job he does usually earn X per hour, that might work.

Thanks for the advice ladies, Im going to look into it but i decided that if im not successful in the first little while of looking im just going to leave it and wait until the information comes to me through a mutual aquiantance, because there still are a couple of those left here and there.
