Arkansas school decides to appoint white co-valedictorian because actual valedictorian is black: "Defendants did not support African-American students, and did not want to see Wimberly, an African-American young mother as valedictorian."
This is seriously fucked up.

I heard about this a few hours ago. I am outraged almost beyond speech.
I started a petition on Change.org. Please sign and circulate!

Change.org emailed out the petition today, so hopefully it got some wider exposure.
It's interesting that most of the articles (at least that I've seen) barely mention that she is a mother.
Noticed that too MC!
So shitty this is happening to her.
Honestly though I hate to be a spoilsport but I'm pretty sure online petitions don't work.
They help raise awareness and get people talking - and get press attention.
Agreed. I think it depends on your goal.
A lot of online petitions are aimed at issues that people already know about and, yeah, they won't necessarily tip the boat one way or another. With this, though, the danger is in the school skating by without anyone drawing attention to its unfair decision. They don't want it to become an public. The fact that the"mess" comment was made behind closed doors only underscores this. I think that the buzz that an online petition can create may be, in an case like this, very effective.
This is true.
