I think Malik is on his way to using the potty except he likes to pee in a cup instead! It happened because after I would give up on waiting for him to pee in the potty before his baths I would put him in the tub and he would pee! So then I would just catch it in a cup so it wouldn't dirty his bath water. So now he deicides he likes the cup idea so last night he told me he wanted to pee-pee in the cup. So I put the cup under his penis and he just peed right into it!!!!! He did this FOUR TIMES last night and then once this morning and he held it each time until I put the cup there! I know this is a big step- but now how do I get him to understand the whole potty thing? I'm thinking of putting the cup in the potty chair, but the thing is I think that he likes peeing standing up- he never seems to be able to pee when he sits on the potty. Any suggestions?

Put the cup in the potty and let him stand up to do it. Or tell him things like "well if you like peeing in the cup, you're going to LOVE peeing in the toilet, cause it makes fun splashy sounds!" and get a step to the regular adult toilet so he can stand on the step and pee into the toilet? Just suggestions, I've never potty trained anyone so I don't know if my ideas are helpful or stupid ;) I can't even housebreak my freaking dog, so maybe don't listen to me. :)
Have him stand up to pee in the toilet.
keep letting him pee in the cup, but make sure he sees you dump it in the toilet, them ask him for help flushing. when he flushes for you, act all overly excited, im talking, jump around, dancing and singing. after a fgew more days of the cup, talk to him, and tell him how much it would be fun if he'd pee in the toilet, and he could even do it standing up, like for the cup. keep pressing the idea on him about "helping" you out so so so much, and keep dumping it in the pot from the cup.
Some boys simply dont like to pee sitting down.
Mine didn't. make sure you tell him that he has to poop sitting down though.
My son oly just got that part, and I'll have nightmares about poop covered bathroom rugs for years. "No sweetie! Thats why you have to sit down, then poop. Its not gonna come out of you like the pee. "
My kid loves to pee into all sorts of random containers but hates to use the potty unless he thinks it's a secret(WTF?). I think he just likes the idea of doing it on his own but usually it's a container that doesn't need to be in contact with urine such as an antique brass teapot or the pan I was just about to use to make dinner etc. I think that your son is well on his way to using the potty but if the cup thing works by all means do it. At least it's not your carpet or your dinner bowl(yes, we have had that happen while still at the table).
I hear its pretty common for little boys to like to pee in cups. I also heard that they love to pee in empty cans because the sound of their peeing on the metal is soo silly to them  Maybe nix the idea of a potty chair then and just have him stand up and pee in the toilet. If he can't reach it get him a little step stool and let him stand on that to pee into the big toilet. He'll probably like the noise of that also and tell him it will make a splashy noise and maybe even some bubbles. Good luck!
I took Dakota to the doc..They had him pee in a cup. When we got home he kept doing it (he was 6).LOL I dont know how we got him to stop.Sorry
Make a game out of it. Put froot loops in the toilet and tell him that you want to play a cool game...put he has to pee in the potty to play. Make him pick a color and aim for it!
