Not sure why this started? Maybe because I call him "Brett" not "dad".. but xander always wants to call him Brett now.. and some times Brett daddy.. do all kids go through this??
my kid does this, not with W but with me, she calls me by my first name ALL the time, and it bothers me, but i just say, t call me mommy, and then she will, or she will call me tricia mommy,
Malakhi calld J by his name sometimes but he's learning to talk so I don't think it'll stick. J hates it because his daughter was told to call him that instead of daddy.
my son calls me and his dad by our first names. I dont mind, he does, and if the ever calls my mom by her first name, or my best friend, whom he calls "Auntie ___" they flip the fuck out. He'll switch back and forth, Mom, Mommy, Kim, Mommy Kim, and lol, Ms. Kim, but what really gets me laughing is when he calls his dad "Ms. Jeremiah". lol. He'll likely outgrow it, and if he doesn't, i really dont mind. As long as when I say "who's my baby?" He says, "ME, Mommy!"
My son has called me Heather ever since he could talk but the fun slowly dwindled and now I'm just "MAMA"(annoyed tone). I think it's probably because my family calls me Heather and not mama so he just wants to be like everyone else. The only time it bothers me is when we're around rude people who already assume I'm his sister/babysitter. As long as you don't make too much fuss over it he'll get bored and forget about it.
I think its totally normal and just a phase. Kids pick up what they hear around them and so naturally if he hears you calling Brett by his first name then hes going to want to test the water out too and try. Tommie went through this phase, calling me and Ryan everything under the sun. She went so far as to say things to me like "hey babe i'm hungry" because she heard Ryan say that to me. Its normal though dont worry jusr try to remind him that hes "daddy" to him but don't make him feel like he CANT or negative to say Brett because then hes going to wonder whtas wrong with say it, ya know?
My daughter went through a phase of calling both her dad and I by our first names (not all the time, but often). I never said anything about it to her (mostley because I thought it was funny) and she just stopped doing it on her own after awhile.
once riley started school she started calling ms momma or ms erinn. whenever she uses my name she giggles, so its just fun for her. i think its totally normal
For me it's a respect thing. I respect my children, I expect respect in return. When my son tells me to call him Spiderman (or whatever other names he comes up with, some of them are off the wall) I do. When I tell him to call me mommy he does. He has a few other nicknames, and he has a few nicknames for me (boogerbutt mommy, ect) and I call him boogerbutt Randy sometimes. Anyway, it shows respect to call a person what they wish to be called.
My kids call me & C by our names or mum depending on if they want to talk to one of us or whichever mum is closest!
I don't mind either way.
My father forbade us to call him "Dad" as we were growing up, we all called him by his first name but addressed my mother as Mum.
He didn't want people to think he was a father when he was out with us.
Nice guy

oh yuck!
We taught Teryn to call Ben "Ben" when he first came around. Now though she's started calling him "Daddy" b/c she hears me call him that. I don't really pressure her either way. She calls me "Mom", but lately if she's yelling for me and i don't answer she'll yell "wara" (laura) *L*
Ruby alternates. Sometimes I'm Mommy, and sometimes I'm "Aja" or "Anja" (Angela is a mouthful for a two-year-old). Same with Daddy/Joel. I assume it's because she hears us calling each other by our first names. My dad tells me I did the same thing for a little while.
My daughter calls me by my first name all the time, accept when she wants something. I've tried several times to make her stop but she won't. It's not like it happens all the time but it happens too much. I'm not afriad to admit that I'm jealous beacuse she calls her dad by his name all the time. I'm always Kiara and he's always Daddy. Is it possible to break that phase?
*LOL* Xander calls us "honey" and "sweetie" sometimes too.. it's so cute. And as for calling his dad by his first name, it doesn't bother us.. and the other day out of no place when we were playing he goes "ohhh Brooke!" and started laughing.. he's sucha goofball!
My kid calls us both by our first names, always has - he's 13 now.
It isn't 'disrespectful'. He never calls us mom or dad, but refers to us to others as 'my mom' or 'my dad'.
People think I 'trained' him to do it, but it is just how he has always been. I just refused to 'untrain' him from something that is obviously just part of his personality. I like that he has his own personhood.
When I am making Malakhi do something he doesn't want to (brush teeth, change diaper etc etc) he tells me "Honey! No!" because I call him honey all the time ;)

so yeah i think all kids go through it.
My son did that for a little bit. It was a quickly passing phase for him.

Why is that bad?
Why do kids HAVE to say Mommy and Daddy?
it's just a title, a made up one at that.

I agree tha ttitles of respect can be used, but "daddy" is a term of endearment, not respect.

My sister would call my dad hun as a toddler because my mom called him that.
Hehe! Ruby has called me "Honey" a couple of times recently. Slightly weird, but very cute. :)
