Yeah, we're poor and ramen (or as I call it, simen,) is cheap. Usually 10/$1 here. But there's only so often you can eat the same thing without getting sick of it. So what do you do to make it more original?

Fried Simen
Take a skillet, and mix your flavor package with half a cup of water. Add the noodles. Turn it on medium heat, and just watch it. The noodles will start to absorb all the water. Keep adding water until the noodles are fully cooked, but the object is to NOT have broth. Add green onions and scrambled eggs. Mmmm.

Also, try adding just a little bit of peanut butter, whether you make it with the broth, or without. It sounds gross, but it gives it more of a thai flavor. Obviously, this is not going to work with all flavors of simen.

i just add cubed chicken to the chicken flavored one, pork to the pork, hamburger to the beef....etc etc.
I remember the Ramen days very well.
When I was little I used to add sour cream to give it a cream sauce.

You can add meat if you can afford it as well. If you are eating this a lot don't add the whole flavour packet because it is SO high in sodium and can cause vertigo later in life (my step grandpa got that from the army). I am sure you know this already though=-)

I usually make the noodles with very little liquid. Then I steam/cook in a little bit of oil snap peas, celery, smalll pieces of carrots, fresh bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, peas, etc. and toss the whole mix. I usually chop the noodles slightly to make them shorter. Add the packet of flavoring to a cup of cornstarch and water. When whatever liquid that is in the pan is boiling (you might want to add some soysauce or sesame oil too), stir in a bit of cornstarch at a time until you have a thicker sauce. I usually season the whole thing with a good deal of pepper, ginger, and garlic.

The result is a pseudo-lo mein. be careful not to overcook the veggies or let them get too soft. You can also add meat (like chicken, beef or pork) or tofu. Just cook it before time in a little sesame oil and spice with pepper.

Frozen vegtables. Any kind but especially brocolli. I like the way it absorbs the flavor in the oriental ramen. I also like to add canned water chestnuts. Yum yum

I love ramen, but I've got to stop eating it! Yeah, it's cheap and soo good, but it's fried and has so much sodium. Try eating it less and substitute with regular pasta--that's much healthier and about the same price when you think about it.

I'll boil a pack of the noodles and add it to a package of miso soup mix. Also, if I have any tofu or mushrooms, I'll throw those in too.
