ok alexa has been exposed to pink eye...the childs mother didnt keep him out of school like she was sopose to and she KNEW he had it... how soon would i notice anything on the baby and what exactaly should i look for?
Just look for a pink, itchy, watery eye. Sometimes their eye will have some discharge. But overall, it's no big deal. It usually goes away by itself without a problem, and if not, your ped will just give you some eyedrops.
my son had pink eye about a month ago, it was awful i felt soo bad for him, when he woke up his eye was all gooky and stuck together. i had just put a warm washcloth on it as much as he would let me. it made a little differance
a good squirt or two of breastmilk in the eye does wonders too :)
Some children are more suseptible to pink eye than others. My girls seem to get it all the time, my ped. always says its because thier eyes are so big :D I tend to think it doesn't really go away on its own, or atleast not quickly enough. Once they are on eyedrops for 24 hours they can return to daycare. And usually their are enough eye drops for another round, (because they will most likely get it again sometime). It's really contagious, so be sure to wash your hands all the time too mama!
Pink eye is definitely annoying BUT it does go away on its own (even though i may come back). I agree about the breastmilk, that works really well. And it can be soothed with wet chamomile tea bags.
My baby girl had pink-eye at 2 months and using cool cotton balls followed by a warm one 5 minutes later helped soothe it while wiping away the gunk. Like they said..look for gunky, red/pink eyes (inside and out) and irritation. Kailey couldn't keep her hands out of her eye so we put a cloth over it and just watched her to make sure she didn't rub it into her other eye or put it anywhere else on her face. We eventually got eye drops because she developed a fever and wouldn't stop crying.
