Yesterday I was trying to see how much milk I had in the morning, just for my own curosity, and when I squeezed my nipple, puss came out of one of the holes. It was thick, and whitish. I had been having breast pain, but I figured it was just from trying to build my supply up enough to feed her once a day. On other "holes" of my nipple (other places where the milk can come out, not sure what they're really called) there was black stuff, if I squeezed really hard and kind of scraped it, I could get it to come out, but then more would come into my nipple too. What is this? My other breast is fine, no black stuff, no puss, so I went ahead and nursed her on that side, but not the other one. Anyone know what the heck this is?
I also have a fever of 104. The kids aren't with me today, they're at my moms.
A fever is a sign of infection. 104 is really high.
Doh, I should've mentioned that I think I have a virus too. My sis and Josh (her hubby) have it. I have a sore throat, a backache, a headache, nausea, vomiting, the works, so the fever could be comming from that too.
if it was an infection your breast(s) might be swollen, red, and painful...
are you sure it's pus? It could just be buildup... i haven't been breastfeeding for a year now, and i still get whitish buildup of all kinds in my ducts, if i squeeze certain areas they pop like pimples. the black stuff... i have NO idea what that might be...
keep an eye on it and if anything changes you should most definitely hit up the doctors office.

When I had it I felt like I had the flu. It is safe to nurse Kayla on that side and in fact you should nurse her as much as she will let you. You will feel better after nursing. Also- this is one time I would recomment antibiotics ASAP.
when i had it my whole boobs hurt.
they felt like they needed to express milk contantly. and they were rock hard! they were stiff and bright red and hurt and i ran a fever.
i had no puss though

Destiny is almost 7 years old and I can still get the buildup stuff out of them too...
And I didnt even breastfeed. I tried like twice, but lack of knowledge about it caused me not to try any more. :( I didnt know how to do it and was too embarassed to ask.
Anyways..I still get what looks like thick milk out of mine...and sometimes just clear stuff will come out of mine too...
Also, the black stuff, that has happened to me before when the ducts have been damaged and there is old dried blood in them. It happened to me after I got my nipples pierced, and then at various times after that if Tommy had bitten them during rough sex...I would still check with a doctor though if you have any concerns....
