..I want one. I need one. I already decided during my pregnancy with Ceilidh I didn't want a third child.. especially since I have a boy and girl. I feel so done with child bearing.. here's my problem.. I'm only 22, no one wants to give me a tubal... any of you girls had one? how'd you convince your pcp or midwife to find someone to do it for you.. I know it isn't un-heard of for girls under 25 to get them done.. but planned parenthood basically laughed at me and said "yeah, well.. good luck with that.. your under 26, NO ONE will give you one until your AT LEAST 25.. REGUARDLESS OF HAVING KIDS OR NOT..." arggggggggg! I don't want to deal with BC, I DON'T want more kids..
I go in Feb 1st to see my midwife again and I am going to BEG her to referre me to someone/find someone to do it for me.. she'd said once Ceilidh was 1, she'd try her best to find someone for me, but I don't want to wait another 9 month.. I want this done now. Any suggestions??
i know that meidcaids policy is 23 years old or 3 or more children.

hmm, i'm trying to think of how you could find a doctor. is there an LJ community for your area? perhaps you could post asking if anyone has managed to find a doctor or one who can be convinced. i know i've seen threads of child-free people who have found doctors to perform tubals on people under 25, and with no kids.
if you can find a dr, talk about how you felt postpartum and how certain you are. explain what you want to accomplish in life. offer to sign a contract or come to several different appointments (they use that to prove you really want it and aren't being coerced.) tell them what they want to hear, basically, because that's better than a pregnancy you don't want.

It totally frusterates me when doctors have the choice whether to tie your tubes or not. Just because they think you are young and may want to have children later on down the road.
It's your body for goodness sakes!
Maybe you could write up a paper saying exactly why you want to have this done andhow it's in your best interest?
I've never heard that before. My OB was going to give me one at age 20, but I changed my mind.
I would call around to every OB in the phone book and ask what their policies are regarding that. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone to help you.
I'm getting one next week. The doc actually suggested it. Maybe find a different ob/gyn that will do it for you. Make sure to tell them the reasons that you KNOW that you will NEVER want to have another baby. Mine had me write something out on my chart and sign by it, so that like he could say that it was my informed decision, which it was, and it's a decision that I am happy with. I am also only 21. Good luck with finding someone to do that for you.
Ugh, stupid insurance companies. kaiser wouldn't give me a tubal until I turned 25. I switched to Health Net and now I'm 25 so it doesn't even matter. But it's such bullshit taht you can't get one done at any age. I wanted one for my graduation present. i love my kids but I can't help wondering how that would have changed things. Oh well, it probably was for the best since I was a mess and now I'm Super Mom!
