i know your suppose to seperate lights, darks and colored clothing but i throw everything in all at once. i wash work clothes with towels and everything else together. nothing has ever blead but i herd that it can wear on the fibers of your clothes if you mix them with towels, how important is it to follow the directions? ( minus the obvious of a brand new red shirt mixed with a white) it saves me so much hassle and my clothes come out clean, but my mom always gets on my case saying it will ruin the clothes in the long run

My mom was very anal retentive about us sperating our clothes by darks, lights, bleach, and towels..so I have dont that my entire life. Im really not sure how it affects the fibers in your clothes. If your wanting to start seperating, I have an easy way. I have a rack that has four baskets hanging on it, plus some room on a top bar to hang already washed clothes. Everytime I bring dirty clothes to the laundry, I put the dirty stuff in the appropriate baskets, and when its time to do laundry, I see what basket has the most stuff and wash accordingly. It makes it very easy.
I have 4 laundry baskets, I always seperate everything.
If you're not sure what should be washed with what, read the labels on the clothes.
I usually try to wash things with similar fibers (synthetic versus cotton versus towels) together. I wash synthetics and cottons I don't want to shrink in cold water and rinse, and everything else in warm. I don't know how important it is as far as the fibers and wrecking them goes, but things seem to come out cleaner that way.
Heh, I've never followed that wash towels separately rule but I do separate clothes by color. I don't think my clothes or towels are any worse for the wear :)
I just throw all mine together. Haven't ruined anything yet
