Starting cereal

I wanted to post this here instead of Feed that baby because more people post on this forum :0) Soooo....I want to start Sydney on some cereal. What's the best way to approach this? Once a day? Every time I eat? I gave her a little this morning and she looooved it. I tried it earlier this month and she just wasnt ready then. Has anyones kid every had an alergic reaction to cereal? lol...just curious. Could I mix some mashed bananas with it? Or would that give her a taste for sweet stuff and be not so keen for veggies later?

I'd start once a day, and if you want to move to more later you can- but remember that breastmilk/formula should be her #1 source of nutrition right now.

I'd dilute it so that it was really runny (there are instructions on the box for baby's first feeding). Usually they suggest waiting until she can sit well unassisted, be 4 mos or older and if they don't have the tounge trust reflex. You can dilute it with pumped breastmilk or with formula so that it'll taste like what she's used to.

I wouldn't mix bananas in yet, you should wait 3-5 days after each new food to see if there's a reaction, otherwise if you give her too much at once you wouldn't knwo what caused it and you'd have to go to trial and error anyway. I don't think that giving ruit really causes a sweet tooth, breastmilk is sweet. But Chloe loves the veggies and hates the fruit, and when we introduced them we'd give a veggie one week and a fruit the next. She never really like cereal. I have a ton I'm about to donate to a food pantry b/c she won't eat it.

I'm not sure how a scheduled meal time would go since Chloe isn't interested in eating real meals yet, she just likes to have a bite of what we're eating. But some people suggest feeding right before you eat b/c feeding her and yourself can be tricky. And don't be surprised if the response you get is a yuckky face or if she spits it out, it's all about learning at this point and just b/c she doesn't like it now doesn't mean she won't ever like it :D Have fun~

I've always heard to introduce things like avocado and sweet potatoes first.
