Bleaching Hair?

I have been bleaching my hair on and off, and dying it bright colors. But, for the past few months, I stopped bleaching it, and only died it. The bleached bit is growing out now, and I have found that the dye does not stick well to my unbleached hair, and ends up staining my pillow cases and getting all over my face, even after it's been set for a while.

So, I want to rebleach my hair.
But, I really do like my hair when it's not bleached, and would, at some point in the distant future, like to let my natural hair color grow out.
Is it possible to bleach your hair too much? Can you damage the roots and perminantly damage your hair by bleaching it? How often is too often?

Bleaching Hair?

im pretty sure you can bleach it too much, it can fall out...
i think it might effect root systems i think thats what happened to tina turner...
when i bleach i wait at least a week between processes...
i find that i cant wash my hair in that time and have to hot oil it in olive oil every day too then brush the heck out of it to distribute the oils. but thats if im bleaching it all again.
how long have you been bleaching?
ive been bleaching my hair white(natural colour black) since i was 11(22 now) and havent had too much problem... then again i got some hardcore hair going on lol...
i dont know why your hair wouldnt take colour... the more i bleach my hair the more it drinks up the hair... to help colour stick i wash in something industrial strength like prell. and dont condition. i think the dryer it is the more it drinks the colour.
what products are you using?

im contemplating growing out my natural colour too, im fighting the urge to bleach. i had to do a wash in coal tar shampoo and it stained my hair brown.

i don't know how possible it is that you would damage the folicle from bleaching. If you want to stop bleaching you coud just dye your hair something close to your natural colour, you're better off to go a shade or two darker, so that when the dye washes out what was bleached is still close to your natural colour.

i am starting to hate permanent dyes. :p

Hmm, from mine & my sisters experiences dying out hair with semi-permanent crazy colours, I would say that certainly the colour doesn't 'take' as well or have as great an effect on non-bleached, but I've never noticed a difference with how much it 'comes off' on pillows or whatever between bleached and non-bleached.

As for damage, you can make it fall out with too much bleaching. It happened to my sisters friend. But I don't think it's permanent, I think it would be fine once it grew back in.

Bleaching Hair?

I have been bleaching my hair and dying it slightly different colors for about 7 years now. My hair gets kind of dry sometimes but overall it hasn't been much of a problem. I always wait at least a month in between each time dying it. I don't blow dry every day and I rarely straighten or curl and I think that helps. I've dyed my hair back to close to the natural color but I just don't like it as much. I figure since we only live once we might as well have whatever hair color we want.
