ALWAYS hungry

ok, im posting this ? to you ladies on behalf of my aunt, whose son Tyler is almost 8 wks old. He is ALWAYS hungry.. i think right now he weighs almost 15 lbs, at one point the doctor said that when he saw him in 1 week he hoped that the baby would gain 1 lb, well my dear pudgy lil' cousin gained 5. He cries hysterically, they check him, hes dry, hes comfortable, they put him in the bouncer, take him out of the bouncer, hold him, walk w/ him, take him outside, drive him around, but EVERY time it is a hungry cry and he sucks bottles down like nothing, he is such a big baby, at not even two months his 6-9mth clothes dont seem like they will fit much longer, the doc. tells my aunt and uncle that he isnt hungry he's bored, but we all know the truth, he IS hungry his mouth goes a mile a minute looking for food and they;ve tried everything but nothing works. the doc. seems to think that they are just feeding him to "shut him up" and are practically accusing them of bad parenting... what would you reccommend.....

BTW he was 9lbs 7 oz at birth

The doctor may assume they are feeding him "just to shut him up" because some parent do that. Often times people DO stick a bottle in a baby's mouth because they're not sure what else to do and don't always understanfd the other reasons a baby may cry.
Does he get lots of attention?
Sometimes young babies just enjoy sucking, I know my son did.

Has he been breast-fed at all? Breast-fed babies are less likely to voereat and feeding him "on-tap" will take off the pressure of watching the ounces.

Is it possibly for your cousin to be seen by a different doctor, because there are conditions that can cause extreme hunger...and for an 8 week old to gain 5lbs in a week should have been enough for the doctor to investigate further.

I would definitly see another doctor, just to double check. But some kids are just hungry. Austyn was always hungry. I call him my tank cause he's so big. Mind you, i think it's been said before, breastfeeding might help take the pressure off watching the ounces as they go down.

Maybe they can try giving him a pacifier.

Andrew loved to suck on that (i thought he was hungry but he wasn't). He stopped using it about 4 months ago. It did help. Babies when they are younger like to suck.

i'm not sure about the breastfeeding, it hasnt been done at all because of prescriptions that my aunt takes, i'm not even sure for what, i know she's diabetic but i dont know if thats what the meds are for, they've tried a pacifier, which only lasts about 2 seconds because as soon as he realizes there's nothing coming out of it he just spits it out...
yes, he gets TONS of attn. more than any baby i've ever seen LOL, (he's the first lil boy of 3 sisters, and 7 granddaughters) they do anything they can think of to get his mind off eating but it really doesnt work... he doesn't even sleep for any decent length of time because he seems so hungry. the doctor seems to think that he is perfectly healthy and just "needs a hobby" what do you tell a 2 mth old to do go play tag with his sisters, they do anything amusing that i can think of.... i dont know i just feel really bad for my aunt and uncle and the baby... but thanks for the advice

is 15 lbs so big for a 2 month old.... he's pretty long and he just has a potbelly and a fat neck... and he was almost 10 lbs at birth... my aunt says her daughters were all fairly close to his size and the docs never really commented on it, but she thinks maybe its just cuz they are older and times have changed (they are 15 12 and 10)
