I am currently still caring for my grandmother who has moderate alzheimers. Recently she started refusing to accept medication from me, or she'll only take one or two of her pills, and i'm supposed to be administering up to 6 a day...
anyway, i started mixing it in with her food, mostly things like ice cream and pudding, and apple sauce...
is there anything else i can do? I was wondering if it would be safe to bake it into things like muffins and cookies, or would that change the effectiveness of the medication?
if anyone has any info or suggestions let me know

I wouldnt bake it, at the nursing home where I would we mix it in all their foods after its aready cooked you can put it in (because if you bake it in cookies she wouldnt be getting the proper dosage she needs). but if you crush and mix in like drinks and already cooked food it should work out for you..
well i was thinking that if i did put it in cookies, i would mix one pill into each individual cookie, and make small batches of say 7 per week, and just doll out one a day, and bake the cookies or muffins every week...
i was more worried about the heat from the oven altering the effectiveness of the medication.
i just thought it would be a fun solution since i love to bake, and she sure does love her sweets...
when my godson was a toddler i used to babysit him. he took powdered medication 3 times a day. I found that mixing it in pudding was the best way to get it to him. It hides the flavor/texture really well. Plus those little pudding cups are really convienient.

You could always try calling a pharmacist to see if baking alters the medication. The only fear I'd have is that the cookies will get into the wrong hands accidentally, or she'll try to eat more than one. But if you know that's not a possibility and the pharamcist okays it, go for it. I know I'd love to make it easier to give Chloe her medicine (she knows it's in her food now.. ugh.).
I used to mix Gabes with chocolate syrup or chocolate sauce, and mix his meds in with a big spoonfull. See if you can get her meds in liquid form.. then make her a sundae :)
