Breastmilk for my kitten.

Some people are grossed out and shocked, others are awed and proud. I am feeding a kitten my breastmilk. We live up in the mountains where a lot of people unfortunately dump unwanted animals (and garbage) and there are a lot of stray cats and kittens. So the other night we were driving home, and we saw this tiny little kitten in the road. We stopped and tried to catch it but it turned into a little spitfire and went flying down the cliff into the center of some blackberry bushes. Hoping its mother would come back for it, we left. We came back the next day and it was still there, crying and crying. I tossed it some food and it didn't eat it or move. It just kept crying. We tried to climb down and get it but the hill was too steep and it was too deep in the blackberry bushes. We went back home and got some rope. When we came back, it was still in the same spot crying. Justin lowered me down on the rope. I got as deep into the bushes as I could but I couldn't reach it. I found a log to perch on while he left to find another way down below the kitten. He left the rope above me in the road, my only way out of there. He found a way to get below the kitten, and scared it up toward me. It took us about twenty minutes to get it. When I grabbed the kitten, I was totally stuck in the bushes with thorns all over me. He went back to the road and threw me the rope, and pulled me and the crying kitten up to the road. It was so starving and thirsty and so tiny. I expressed som milk and gave it to it. When we got home we tried to give it food but it didn't know how to eat. It would only take milk from a medicine dropper. I went to get it some kitten formula, but the lady told me my milk was way better, and he only needs a tiny bit. So I have been expressing milk and teaching him to lap it off a plate, which he has learned to do very quickly, and mixing in softened food that he is starting to eat. Crazy story, but his tummy is full now and he is starting to play, I think he is going to be fine. Now he thinks that I am his mother.

That is soo cool. I hate the fact there are so many stray animals, I cry everytime I see a stray dog or cat! It may just be pregnancy hormones but it is really getting to me lately. There are some stray kittens here in the apt. complex that I live in and I try to get them all the time and they run off and hide. They are too quick. I put food near where I see them alot to feed them b/c I don't know what else to do. They still have a mommy, I see her too. I am not sure if they belong to someone or not. I am so happy to hear you are helping the kitty, I am sure it will make a wonderful pet.

Omg, that story is so cute. If your breast milk is what it needs and your happy to give it then why not?? I dont think its disgusting at all.

Im glad some poeple actually go out of their way to help helpless animals! I would love to bring them home when i see them but i cant :(

That is so awesomely cool of you!! I dont think its gross, i mean humans drink milk from a cow, so why cant a kitten drink milk from a human?

LOL thats so cool... and yeah..humans DO drink milk from cows..so i dont see what the big deal is...your milk probably tastes better than kitten formula would anyway...awww your story is just so cute!!

Moreso than human's drinking cows milk, a lot of times if an abandoned pet comes across a nursing mother of another species, once it's been accepted it can nurse from the mother as one of her children. I've seen kittens nurse from pups before, and I recently saw a picture of a squirrel nursing from a cat with the rest of it's litter. It's kind of neat. I think it's great you worked so hard to save an animal and keep her alive, without you she'd probably be gone by now. I join the awed and proud group.

Yea I dont find that disgusting at all I think its a very sweet story!

There was a case in New Zealand where a woman was actually physically breastfeeding her puppy and her baby....not just disturbing to me, but dangerous too for baby I would think, but anyway totally nothing like your story but just made me remember!

I would be scared to breastfeed a puppy because dont puppies have sharp teeth?
