Though some acts mentioned in the link are somewhat justifiable, I don't think that arson or using explosives to get your point across is. Don't get me wrong, I love animals and I think every animal has a right to be treated humanely but being destructive isn't helping anything at all. If you really want to see change in this world, I think it would be better to do something productive rather than destroy something people legally own. What good are you doing if you're in jail? Just my two cents...
 poor monkey

I agree with that. Also, if you ruin someones stuff to prove a point or get them to stop, thats not gonna make them change what they are doing. People tend to believe what they want and not really listen to others that much. If they really want to make a difference they should try to make those activities that they dont believe illegal.
I know that..im not promoting what they did at all...I was actually just thinking about the post made before about writting to penpals in prison. I personally dont condone any of that, I just thought some people might be intrested in writting someone since some girls were expressing intrest in the rights of prisoners to have penpals.
oh I didnt think that you were promoting it... sorry if my post came across that way!
For arguments sake:
If running with their stuff isn't going to change their mind, but nothing else you do is going to either, then why not just take the animals away and put them somewhere where they would be safe?
"Back-in-the-day" and even now, I suppose if the opportunity came up, we used to "tax" people's dogs if they beat them. I have no regrets about doing that, and hope that I would do it again if I found out someone I knew was beating their dog. Why is it not the same for other animals that are being treated badly, be it by a corporation or an individual person?
And, would you argue that the proporty is worth more than the life of an animal? Because, I wouldn't. Earth First, as much as I can take issue with some of their policies, was declared a "domestic terrorist organization" in Minnesota, with it being declared a "bigger threat to the US than AlQuaida (sp?)" -- because of the Proporty damage it has done.
Property is not worth more than an animals life, no. But, the people committing arson and posessing and/or detonating explosives were not liberating any animals. They were destroying someones property. I really don't have an issue with someone liberating abused animals. Nobody has a right to abuse any living creature even if it is legal.
And, what do you mean by "taxing" someones dog? I don't understand that comment. Sorry.
Yeah, if they were destroying the property to free the animals then I would agree with that. But I just dont think that destroying property just to destroy it and say, "look at me, i dont agree with you so I am going to blow you up" is going to do much of anything. If anything that could be worse for the animals because they could get hurt in the process. Kat I also don't get what you mean about taxing a dog, can you explain more please?
We would take it away from them, if they wanted to give it away or not, and give it to a new owner who would treat it better. I have no idea why it was called taxing.
There is a guy in jail for letting go a ton of animals at a fur farm. I hate fur and think it belongs to the animals and think it's so awesome that he let them go, but then I think they might get killed in the wild b/c they are not used to that kwim?
Also, some activists let go some dogs at a lab that were being tested. I am very against animal testing. Then you hear about PETA members killing animals because they have no resources to keep them, after they have rescued them... so yeah.
I would write to these ppl to tell them how awesome they are for helping with animal liberation. I don't think they need to be in jail for it and definately should not be called a terrorist. Although, I personally wouldn't go as far as burning someone's house down, etc... I think a good way to continue the animal liberation movement is to keep it more peaceful... I love radical ways of trying to do something though - so I guess I don't know how I look at it in regards to destroying property, etc. Again, I wouldn't do it but yeah... that's what I think.
Although I fully agree with liberating animals from corporations, labs, etc, I don't always agree with the tactics used. If they need to break a door or window to get to the animals to do it, that's fine, but if they're setting it on fire afterwards or destroying property that animals aren't even housed at, I don't agree with that. I don't think property is worth any where near as much as an animals life, but needless destruction is just that, needless, and can put people or animals in potential danger.
I totally agree with you.
I dont agree with any animal testing of any kind.
But I also, dont know how I feel about liberating animals by freeing them.....
Anyone see 28 days later???? That movie was far-fetched...but the point was, they let out a HUGE problem. A lot of the animals in labs, for government testing, are full of crazy diseases and shit...and you wouldnt want them to get into the wrong hands...ALSO...they are soo sick, that liberating them, without the proper vetrinary care, is cruel, because they are just going to die a long, painful death. *most labs will put animals out of their misery, rather then let them suffer until they die*.
The best thing I can think of doing, is not supporting the companies that use testing. If you fuck with a companies profits...they will listen eventually.....and there ARE many animal friendly companies out there. Protesting, and letters work well too... I just, dont like it when activisits who arent fully aware of what the consequences are, "liberate" lab animals, who have ALREADY been used in testing.
oh that makes sense. Yeah I totally agree with that, but i thought you meant like charging them money to keep their dog or something.
Sky, that's what I thought too! But, I think that makes perfect sense. If someone can't take care of an animal properly (i.e. abuse) they should not own them and should have them taken away immediately.
Also, naivete took the words out of my mouth. I completely agree with what you were saying.
