Well Im a little confused about my due date. At my first dr. appointment the nurse asked me the last day of my period and then calculated my due date and said it was may 10th and i was 6 weeks pregnant, but i knew that was wrong because i know exactly when i got pregnant. The doctor checked me and said I was only about 3 weeks which was right and he said it would push my due date back but he never gave me a new one. Then i went to my second appointment and asked him my due date he asked if i knew when it was conceived and i said yeah august 19th and the calculated it and said may 10th again... im confused because thats not even 9 months. Its just aggravating me because i know its wrong, but everytime i ask about it its still may 10th.Any ideas why ?
The calculation of due dates can be a bit confusing at first.
Doctors start counting you as pregnant from the first day of your last period. So if you got your period around August 5, technically you were 1 week pregnant on August 12 even though you hadn't had sex yet! It's weird, but that's the way it works. Obviously you weren't pregnant, but the process to grow a fetus was starting.
And your "nine months" is 40 weeks. So they would take August 5 and add 40 weeks, to get May 10! But you can also deliver anywhere after 38 weeks and be considered full term.
When your doctor said that you were only three weeks, he probably meant from the date of conception. That would have made you 5 weeks at the time.

I'm having the same problems. I KNOW when I conceived: August 15th...They told me I was due May 7th, according to my period and cycle.
Then, after a dates ultrasound, they told me I was due May 11th. That seemed closer, as I think I'll have the baby on May 15th.
But when I went in for the next midwife's appointment, she said I was due May 5th. ARGH!
BTW, it's cool to know I'm so close to someone else in how far along I am!
I guess ill just go by what he says unless he tells me differently :? . Who knows maybe they'll be born on the samee day haha! Me and my sister are 7 years apart and we were both born on January 20th thats pretty crazy to me.

My son was due 12/18/02 but he was born on 12/26/02 i went into labor two days after my midwife examined me i was one centemeter dialated. Anyways, I was eight days late.
my due date is may 10th as well.The first day of my last period was Aug. 4th. i am 12 weeks now. Due dates really aren't that imporant, they just give you a ballpark anyway. Ya know? You have the approximate date, that's pretty much all you can ask for! =O) I just say the beginning of may... I think my sister was due about may 10th or something like that, and she had reese April 30th so...it's still just a guess.
