I am in high school and a member of the track and field team. I compete in throwing events like shot put, discus, and javelin. I was told that I could throw most of the way through the pregnancy. At the state track meet, I will be 32 weeks. I was told that it would be ok for me to throw up until that point, as long as I don't do a lot of running or lifting, just throwing. I just wasn't sure if that would put any strain on the baby and just how safe throwing an 8 1\2 pound ball when I am 32 weeks pregnant. In the 2 other events, the obejcts don't weigh near as much, but i have to lift my hand over my head and thrust the object really hard. This is my first, so there's a lot I don't know. Can anyone give some advice?
Thanks,
Angela

Am I excercising too much?

Lifting your arms over your head and possibly stretching the fetus' limbs is an old's wives tale. It wont hurt your baby. I was told that you can lift up to 10 lbs while pregnant, after like 20 weeks. What you are doing for track and field is probebly safe as long as you're in shape to begin with. For a person to start doing things like that while they are pregnant probebly isn't a good thing. But since you've been doing it all along, and your docters said it was ok, I think you'll be fine. Hope this helps! :)
If yuo can still do that comfortably at 32 weeks then go for it! lol. I was told that you could still keep normal activity (if your a runner you can keep running but you can't try to run a marathon if you've never run before) as long as you feel comfortable and even then just try to modify it not stop. Exercising while pregnant is good for you and will make child birth easier.
Make sure you're heart rate doesn't get too high. (I think 120 might be top? I can't remember.) I would also talk to your ob or midwife about what exercise you should and shouldn't do while pregnant. I know exercise is really good for you while pregnant as along as you make sure that you don't overdo it.
