Moving? Need opinions

ATTN all MN mamas (and anyone else that wants to give their opinions)

So my goal for 2006 was to get my life together.

I don't know if I can do that here. While I have the resources of my friends and family I feel like there are so many things holding me back here. I honestly am thinking of moving out to MN. While I have only been there once it seems like you guys have the city that is the most "together." I don't really want to move to NYC but the Twin Cities seems like they have all I would want there.

What do you guys think? I'll be out there for a few days at the end of May begining of June to visit Erika so I could figure things out for sure then but I am really considering... I need opinions.

If you really want to, I think it's a good idea. There's lots of mamas here that can help you out with assistance, etc. I think it'd be awesome if you lived here and I am sure that living is cheaper than NY.

Oh that would be awesome, Jenni! You know that I will help you with whatever you need. You should apply to grad school here...we have family housing you should be able to get into as a single mom (we have first dibs) at the U of MN. (PS If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, you should take your GRE some time soon!)

You could likely be transferred from your job (at the restaurant) to one here since you have so much experience, and there are tons of them. My best friend works at one in Roseville and I'm sure he could hook you up.

There are so many opportunities here that I think it would be a great idea if it's worth it to you. I am sure it would be scary to move away from your family and friends but you have at least one friend here! You have several months to think about it and you know we can (at least attempt while I'm 7 months pregnant with twins!) try to look around at the city and things for you to get used to it here if you want.

The fact I know so many of you there is a big push for me. I mean I want to get out of here but I don't want to go somewhere that I know no one. That would just be too much.

I need to take my GRE's which is the biggest thing right now. I've kept putting them off and now its coming to bite me in the ass. I want to get my masters out there and I think that, like erika said, housing out there would be the best option. I haven't told any of my family and I would have to work on what would happen with Xander but it's what I think I want.

That would be so cool if you moved out here. I have never been to NY but I have heard that it is way cheaper to live here than there. If you have restaurant experience it probably wouldnt be too hard to get a job they are always building new restaurants esp. out by where I work. If you lived over there but whatever. I will help you in whatever way I can, just let me know!

If you need childcare, we already have it covered! Especially if you're at the U. If you don't mind hippy kids, you can use my childcare -- and there are TONS of preschools/preschool age programs through the parks and the Y that are amazingly cheap/free.

I've used Kat's before too and they're awesome! Lyric LOVES them too - plus then all the kiddos would have playmates :)

Kat is yours like a drop in daycare? That would be pretty cool, since mine is only 7-5 and I work nights sometimes. Too bad you live in mpls.

No, mine is a group of friends who used to all live together but are now pretty scattered apart. I have two main childcare providers who watch Zoe on different days that we have worked out ahead of time, and they live in houses, in town, and don't travel. Many of the other kids are traveling, so when they come back into town, they enjoy taking a shift or two watching Zoe.

Its so cool to see another mom considering a big move before working on her masters. I'm going to graduate soon and have no idea where I'm going for my masters and have been feeling guilty about moving from family but there is nothing here in NW Ohio. This site is so awesome for reminding me that there are mommas out there like me, not as worried about acquiring vans and soccer players and intrested in things as "odd" as organic foods, gender norms, and social justice.
