Calling Grandpa Daddy?

My daughter is 2 1/2 and recently she has been calling my dad "Daddy". Not directly, she just sometimes refers to him as her Daddy. I know she is way too young to understand what a dad or a grandpa is, but I'm really bothered by her doing this. I just try to explain to her that he is not Daddy. That's all I can really say--she doesn't know her dad. Anyone dealt with this? I'd love some input. Thanks...

Do you think maybe she calls him that because it's what you call him? Ever since I've had kids I almost always call my mom and dad, bapa and nana. Maybe if you called him grandpa (or whatever he wants to be called by her) when she was around she'd get into the habit of calling him that too. Just an idea.

I almost always call him Grandpa around her, only sometimes Dad. My mom, however, does call him Daddy when talking to me or my sister. (I've asked her to stop.) I think my daughter gets it from her school where they talk about Mommies and Daddies. It's interesting, she saw a picture of Cinderella and her prince, and she said "That's her Daddy." I guess she thinks all men are Daddy?

My nephew would do that too when he was around that age to my dad and my uncle, I think they assume all men are daddy (his dad was more or less around) he grew out of it pretty quickly and knows that everyone has their own name.

Lyric did that, too. She sometimes calls BD "daddy" when she seems him in photos b/c they look alike. I just explain her who he is. Lyric has called my mom "mom" - I think they just do at first, until they understand more. I didn't really worry about it, except I'd think "that's my kid...!!" lol

Eric is 1.5 and he calls my mom, mom. He calls me mama. It kinda freaks me out too! But I think its because he hears me and my sister calling her mom all the time. I hope he doesnt think he has two moms. But anyway everytime he calls her mom I say no Eric thats grandma.

Maybe it's a bit easier to say "daddy". Kiddo couln't pronounce his "g's" for a long time- Kiddo called my dad "pu-paa" for a while. It didn't last though- since people laughed.

Nope, Grandpa was one of her first words! And that's still what she calls him for the most part.

Yep, my son used to stand at the bottom of the stairs and yell "Moooommm" for my mom...just like my little brother and sister do. Now he says grandma. He always called me Mama or Mommy.
I think she is probably just confused by tv or books/friends, if you are watching tv, she will almost always see a house with a mom, daddy and kid you know? Anyways, if she really understands what "daddy" represents, then that is quite an honor for your dad that he is such a special person in her life. She will get the name right soon.

Calling Grandpa Daddy?

My baby recently started calling dad dada. She is only 11 months old. She had always called him papa but now she says dada. Me and her dad broke up a month ago and she went from seeing her dad everyday to maybe once a week for a few hours. At night she cries and screams for her dada and Im not sure what to do. When she sees my dad she runs to him and starts yelling dada real excitedly like he was her dad. When she cries for dada my dad (i live with my parents) always run to her and she is fine. When her dad comes to get her she dont call him dada she just looks at him and cries. So if anyone has anything to help me with trying to get her to call her real dad dada and go back to calling my dad papa please let me know.
