My birth story

So, I meant to post this before now, but it is a bit time consuming to have three kids (that is what I am learning!)
On the evening of the 12th my water broke. I was shocked, to say the least, as I was only 37 weeks and really thought I had plenty of time until this baby arrived. I quickly jumped into action, telling people orders. We didn''t have anything here. I had to send a friend for the birth tub, another friend for diapers (my cloth dipes hadn't arrived yet) and we didn't have our car seat yet, either. That night I got in bed and waited, nothing happened. My last labor was really fast, one hour from start to finish, so I was sort of waiting for that to happen again. It was so strong and intense that I can admit now that this time I was a little scared. I woke up the next morning, still pregnant. So, I decided to just keep the kids home from school but start the day like normal. I had some breakfast and then did a few chores around the house. At about 11 I decided to go for a walk and get my labor going with homeopathics. My girlfriend who is a midwife went with me. At 11:30 I started to have contractions that were regular but not that painful, I would call them cramps. I got home at about 12 and decided to take a shower. While I was in the shower I continued to have contractions but still wouldn't lable them as all that painful. My sweetie and my midwife friend decided to call the other midwife and have her come anyway because of my history of fast labors. I got out of the shower and called my baby sitter to come, even though I thought it might be too early. Then I decided to get back in the shower because the contractions had gotten a bit stronger, though, they really weren't all that painful, still. My friend urged me to get in the birth tub but I thought that I wasn't dilated enough and I really didn't want to slow things down. She checked me and I was 5 -6 cms. I still wasn't convinced that it was really going to happen anytime soon because my labor wasn't that painful. At around 1:15 I got into the birth tub and felt like my labor might be slowing down. I reached my finger tip inside to see how far along I was and found the head to be right there. I quietly gave a few pushes, without anyone noticing and moved the head a bit more. Then, totally calmly, I let my friend with my kids know that it was time for them to be there. Truthfully, though, my older daughter was there the entire time, rubbing my back and giving me sips of water. The girls got right next to the tub, which was right in front of the windows looking out on the mountains, and watched as I pushed their new sister out into my own hands in a few pushes. It was by far the most peaceful birth that I have ever been to. Lucy Lorelai was born at 1:49 in the afternoon on a rainy day after three relaticely easy hours of labor. She was only 5 pounds 14 oz but looked great for being here a bit before we thought that we would see her. Life since then has been great and a bit hectic but i am totally enjoying it.

Thanks everyone for your sweet words. I should say that my first two births were home births also and this one was so incredibly different. I feel like, I don't want anyone thinking that having your baby at home isn't painful. It definitely was really painful and hard work the first two times. I am not sure why this one was so easy. I am so glad that this was a really gentle and peaceful birth but I would hate for it to give someone the wrong idea about what should be expected from a home birth.
