how much do you owe?
how long have you been in school?
what type of school? (state U, private, community, tech...)

i've been in school for 7 years.
now have my associate's.
and now working on my bachlor's for the 2nd time.
i've about 10,000$ in loans.
i don't wanna take out any more., but most likely have to.
is anyone else taking out huge amounts of loans?

I'm done with college (bachelor's degree) and have about $30,000 in student loans to pay back. I went to a private school. My grace period expired about 6 months ago, so I put them all into forbearance or deferment since I just don't have the money to pay them back right now. They want about $300/month. About 4 different companies held my student loans even though they were all federal stafford loans, so I've also been working on consolidating them.

I have a Bachelor's of Scinece in chemical engineering, and was in school for four years.

I went to a private school, University of Rochester in NY.

I went for about a year to a private university. My student loans are like $7,000. I pay $70.00 a month, but for like 10 years. :(

2 years, $7,000.

A tip if anyone out there hasn't used up their loan yet: ration it out and invest the rest. My two older sisters did that and then they bought houses after Uni, and managed to pay back their loans.

I thought the women in this thread would appreciate this scholarship link:

http://www.straightforwardmedia.com/debt//debt-scholarship.html

I don't know much about it, it just came up in a fastweb search. It is a scholarship for people in debt.

10K and counting. I seriously considered not going to grad school because of the loans.

If you do well enough on your GRE (if you're in the US), you should be able to GET PAID to go to grad school. I will be going to either grad or med school in the fall, and I am looking into graduate assistantships so I don't occur any more loans ($60K+ here as a 5th year undergrad...I am graduating in May, though).

I owe $14K
2.5 years in May 2006 (when I graduate)
Community/Tech College.

I also got grants & scholarships, but I took out extra loans to help pay for rent, bills, etc...

This is my second year in school, at a community college. I owe nothing due to grants and scholarships, but I know it won't be like that forever.

I will owe $70K when I finish in May. It will have taken me 4.5 years (9 semesters plus a few summer courses...I started in the fall of 2001 and had taken the spring 2003 semester only off to have my son) at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Yeah, the problem with grad assistantships is that I make so much more as a nurse, even workign part-time, that it's just not feasible at my school (the UW) to take a grad assistantship that pays $1400 a month for half-time, even with the tuition waiver. I did very well on the GRE, and I talked to my adviser about an assistantship, but it's just not feasible.

I go to Minneapolis Comm & Tech College - right downtown Minneapolis, a bit past the Walker art center.

There's several more around town & st paul...
