I'm sorry, I just need to vent. I was hired recently to work in a daycare and they really don't have their shit together. I worked for them once before the new year, there were only two kids there when I got there and two adults working there who were both paying attention to the one kid, and letting the other just do his own thing. So it was way overstaffed, but that's not a big problem. I was called in to work a few weeks into January, I came in and there was one other woman working. We got everything set up, and a bunch kids started arriving, and another woman arrived to work also. After I had been there about an hour the woman who hired me came in and said that they actually wouldn't need me today because they already have two people working there, but that I should pick up my paycheck for the last time I had worked in their office. Again, not a big deal, I was the new hire so it makes sense she sent me home instead of the others, a little annoying since I had rearranged my schedule so that I could work when she asked me to and that she didn't tell me until after I had been there for an hour, but no big deal. Then, about a week later, I got my tax forms in the mail from them, counting what they payed me on the 2005 taxes. They didn't pay me until well into 2006! I've already filed my taxes and my fafsa and everything! I wrote to my boss and politely asked her to change it so that the income I received in 2006 be counted towards 2006, and she wrote back and said "sorry, we already filed it." Um, so did I? I know it's not that big of a deal, I'm just really frustrated because I don't know if I even can fix it on the fafsa now that it has been sent to the schools, and if I lose my financial aid over a mistake about a $33 paycheck I am going to be pissed. Luckily my bd knows quite a bit about taxes, so he's going to figure out how to fix it for me (I think I'll have to count my working in the daycare as self-employment income, and then count what I spent on my cpr/first aid certification class as a business expense, which makes sense, but I don't know if that will work either because although I took the cpr class *before* I got payed, it was also well into 2006, then also I might have to pay self-employment tax.) I'm just really frustrated, this is way more trouble than it is worth. Bd says I should just quit, but I don't think that they meant to create such a frustrating situation for me, they are just not very well organized. Anyway, I'm sorry to go on and on, I just want to do my taxes right and am frustrated because I thought that I already had done them right.

I'm sure that is frustrating! You can amend your 2005 taxes AND your 2006-2007 FAFSA, though, and it really shouldn't be a big deal! :) Do you have a PIN for your FAFSA? You should be able to do it online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, and if not, give them a call and ask what you should do.
Just remember this really isn't a huge deal, and $33 isn't going to make a big difference!
Thanks! Can I still amend the Fafsa if they've already sent it out to my school?
Yes! Just talk to your financial aid office and let them know you are amending your FAFSA, and have FAFSA send them the new copy. Most schools do not award financial aid this early yet anyway!
Oh good!! Thank you so much! I was SO worried about it.
Also, don't you not have to report income under a certain amount??
