My son whines alot in his sleep....this didnt concern me until he started keeping me up at night with his very loud screaming.
Its the weirdest thing.....he will be sound asleep but yet he will scream his little lungs out. I try to leave him be at first, but it gets terrible.
When I try to gradually wake him up...it takes like an hour....and then he still screams after hes up. ??? And I try everything to get him to calm down, like...hold him. burp him. feed him. change him....but nothing works...he doesnt want anything. When he finally goes back to sleep, he will randomly do it for the rest of the night and I find myself sitting up watching him to see if hes okay....and I say his name every once in awhile to get him to stop lol
Its almost like hes having nightmares....its starting to get so weird. I dont mind being up at night with him if I have to be, cuz hey...thats part of having a baby....but this really doesnt seem normal to me.
Does anyone elses babe do this? Should I maybe see a doctor?

Night time screaming....

oh....and i forgot to say that he is definately NOT colic.
Other than these little episodes during the night....hes a VERY quiet, calm, happy baby. He doesnt even cry....and if he does its these little quiet moans.....but at night its a whole other story....it doesnt even sound like him.....weird.
Leigha does it sometimes..although she didnt have it as bad as what your child seems to. I reckon its night terrors. I usually act upon it by giving her a cuddle and singing to her. But as you said, you'e tried that. Im really stuck on anything to tell you, but i do know what you mean.
Is it possible your baby is teething? When Leigha cut her first tooth she was very much how u describes and coz id never had a baby before i was panicking. Id suggest perhaps picking up some dentinox and rubbing it on your babes top and bottom front gums..
If that fails, id contact my doctor. Go with your instincts, thats the best advce i was ever given concerning my child.
Could it be night terrors?
Night terrors supposedly only happen in children over 6 months of age, from what I've read (and I've read A LOT recently since my almost-3 year old has been having them...and they SUCK, let me tell you).
Erika is right, night terrors dont occur until at least 6 months, and more commonly later.
While I beleive babies can have nightmares, it seems unusual that 3 month old would ahve them.
My guess would be gas. Enough to bug him, but not enough for him to wake up.
Do talk to your doctor about this, but unless he's not getting sleep, or not eating, he's probably OK.
Sometimes Olivia will scream or even laugh out loud in her sleep, but only a few times ever. That would really concern me if it happened as you describe it. I'd definitely check with your pediatrician just to make sure somethings not wrong. If they say its ok then I'd go with that, but asking won't hurt. And it might give you some peace of mind.
Eric has done the laughing and screaming, as well as he has said a few words in his sleep, mostly dora or elmo but one time he said mama that was cute :)
anyway, that would worry me too. When you say screaming do you mean like crying really loud or do you mean actually screaming, like if you were to see something scary? Either way i would talk to the doctor
Haha, skylar - Lyric talks all the time in her sleep.
I've heard that you're not supposed to wake a child up out of a deep sleep, especially during a nightmare... I'm not exactly sure why. I guess you're just supposed to let the dream continue until they awake on their own.
My parents used to HAVE to wake me cause I'd sleepwalk and talk, cry, and scream in my sleep.
Kids always seem to have more vivid and realistic dreams because of their active imaginations... I don't think it's anything to worry about. They say that it usually doesn't become a problem until adulthood. If you still experience frequent nightmares at that point, you should seek therapy.
ever since I was a little girl, I've had terrible nightmares.....I was scared of absolutely everything as a kid too. hah. anyway, I still have nightmares to this day but they dont bother me as much now because well...im older and realize theyre only dreams.
i dont know if this has anything to do with my son, and it might seem silly to say this but maybe he gets this from me??....
and to answer SkyKids question...umm he kinda starts off crying and then into full blown screaming....but sometimes its just like...everythings quiet and then SCREAM. like as if hes being murdered. its messed.
Out of curiousity, do you ever let your kid watch scary movies? My bf's niece has nightmares from watching scary things on TV.
