strike + daycare subsity = GONE

WHAT??? that makes no sense....what do they expect you to do when school is back on? God. this strike is such a pain in the ass...those teachers are screwing it up for everyone..
Why are the teacher striking? I don't know anything about what's going on, but don't they have a right to demand certain conditions?
i'm sorry that's happening, that really sucks for all the people that are losing their subsidies.
do you have any more info about the strike? it's pretty common that when a group goes on strike, the group above them, whoever it is they are striking against, say the city or the government, will attempt to sway popular opinion by claiming that certain negative changes and consequences have to happen due to the strike, when that isn't always the case. it's pretty easy to pin something on a group that isn't actually responsible by claiming that time or money necessitate it, when really their intention was to make it necessary. i'm not sure that totally makes sense the way i wrote it...
the teachers are striking because they want higher pay, lower class sizes and more preperation time.
College teachers are almost getting the same pay as University prof., our classes are about the size of Kindergarden and we normally dont stay all class... WHAT MORE DO THEY FREAKIN WANT?!?!
Daycare subsity is gone as of Monday unless I can secure a fulltime job between now and then... ha ha ha Cant Do! so yeah i am very angry/upset. i've been trying to reach my local MP but ha like he'll call me back right?
GAWD!
OOO,
Im soo sorry to hear that this has happend to you.. I would write my local MP, but we arent in the same jurisdiction....I cant beleive that they are being soo ridiculous about the whole thing. These teachers are striking, not realizing the effect its having on everyone. My friends are screwed, because they had to take out loans to pay for all this...and now theres talk about re-doing the semester?? That means thats a whole half a year taken away from full time work, if that happends.
You are definatly not the only one this is affecting. Hell, if this happend in september, I would be in the same boat. Is there anyway you could get togetehr with the others this is happening too? If you all petitioned, or called him...Or talked to someone...there has to be SOMETHING you can do, because this is NOT RIGHT.
Its very hard to sypathize with the teachers on this one. A local radiostation interviewed a lady who went on about "only making 20,000$ a year" They asked her how many hours a week she worked..she said 12...that worked out to 32$ an hour! To me, thats a HELL of a lot of money. Its not just that, but i know a lot of people who are really worried about their academic futures/futures in college..because they wont be able to afford to do the semester over again.
Hey, you're in toronto right? Maybe I'm way off, but if there's anything I can do, like call places or search for daycares or what not, let me know.
I told my boyfriend about this whole mess and he got totally offended....He wrote a letter to some radio station I think.. I beleive it was the EDGE....all the DJS there are furious at the teachers....he didnt use names or anything...Just simply said that people were loosing their subsidy, and daycare spots, and that something needs to be done about it. The edge has been good at adressing the issues people are facing with these teachers being on strike...hopefully they might get some people in the same situation to come forward and take some action. Because this is definatly totally unfair whats happening to you with the daycare.
I guess the next thing you could do would be a petition of some kind. I cant think of anything else right now, but I would be glad to sign a petition, or help you with anything else to get this mess straightened out.
You deserve the chance to go to school, and taking your subsdidy away is wrecking that. Its totally unfair whats happening.
I would call your local elected official and talk to her/him about it. I have found that my local official is often willing to step in and DO something on my behalf (I had to call him about a bill collecter calling my friend's boyfriend to harrass her, and he put a stop to it).
are you losing it because you obviously aren't in classes if they won't let you come by striking? i know i am approved for subsidy "full time" which means when i'm in class and when i'm not. could you get subsidy for "research time" or something?
i brought this up to my social policy class and they were all just baffled, me included. i mean you need to look up a welfare advocate (even if you're not on welfare, they monitor and safeguard all social programs) or possibly human rights. if you can't find a number for a welfare advocate as the human rights ppl, they should be able to help.
i'm sorry though, i know subsidy is a major pain in the ass to get, i can't believe they'd with hold it like that if you are a qualifying person.
Wow, I could have sworn that my subsidy worker said that I get two months to find employment or work if I leave school before getting it taken away.
or go back to school*
damn typos...
ok, sorry i havent replied sooner.. alot has gone on. I have subsity til Monday.
