Julian wont sleep

We had finally gotten him settled into a routien. He napped peacefully after every two waking hours, then slept pretty nicely at night, only waking to be fed once.

but lately....ARGGGGGG. Hes up every 40 minutes at night. Not to eat...and as soon as i pick him up, hes asleep. Again. Hes not napping much at all during the day, except for his first morning nap. Hes getting cranky...and hes doing this thing where hes perfectly happy, then just randomly throws an all out fit....with screaming, and crying, and unhappyness.... This is all perfectly coinciding with his three month birthday.....soo..im wondering if its a developmental thing??

Anyone have any expereince with this? It IS just a phase right?? Hopefully a short one?

He's still very young. His sleep patterns are going to change over time with growthspirts and such.

Sounds like teething to me, where he's whining in his sleep but not really awake. Teething or illness can really throw a babies sleep off. My boy had his first tooth at 4 months. It's definately not unheard of.

Just keep to your schedule. There will always be days when he wont cooperate. All you can really do about that is try to keep the routine. Otherwise, you might have to go the no routine at all route and let him build his own. You'll know which is best for your kid and his needs.

Right at Olivia's 3 month birthday, she started taking really little catnaps for a week or 2, I think. It drove me nuts. I couldn't get her to nap for longer than 40-45 minutes. But, she didn't start sleeping through the night until right at 12 weeks, too. So, I think that since she was sleeping so well at night she didn't need as long of naps. Eventually she started making her own routine of longer naps twice a day, and sleeping through the night. By about four months she had set a pretty regular routine. Hang in there, I think it will be a pretty short phase. It was for us.

Thanks for the replies!!

Quelyn, that sounds exactly like what he is doing. I wonder if hes going to sleep through the night soon? That would be WONDERFUL!

Yeah, i keep forgetting that hes really too little to be consistent with anything. It just frusturating, because for a while there, he was perfectly schdualed, and always happy......I hate being confused to his needs like this!

If he's falling back to sleep as soon as you pick him up, it sounds like he may be ready to learning to self-comfort. It's normal for babies and children of all ages to wake up in the night. When a child sleeps through the night, it's because he or she can get back to sleep without help.

Instead of picking him up trying rubbing his back until he falls back to sleep. Also, you can try waiting a minute or so beforwe getting him. Is he whining or is it a full-on roaring cry?

Hes like in between whinning and crying...its a definate loud noise, but its not his tempertantrum cry.

I tried this teh other day. I had just gotten out of the shower, he slept for a whole....oo 30 mins *his naps should be 1 1/2* soo i just left him in the crib, because I was wet, and needed to get clothes, and my hair and make-up done, as i was running late. I kept talkign to him while I was doing this, and patting him...but he threw a fit!! Like angry, angry screaming. As soon as I picked him up, he was the happiest baby ever.

I know they say you cant spoil them this young...but jeeez....
