I subscribe to "Mothering" magazine, and this website was featured in their magazine, along with an article by a Mom wondering why their were carcenogenic materials in her babes body wash!!! She found a site that is 3rd party, and they go through 100's of products and the ingredients.... Give them a rating between 0-5..... And then a colour. Green for Low concern, yellow for moderate concern, and red for high concern.

You can then go into the product and find out why it got the rating it did.

I rounded up all my daughters stuff as well as my own and checked them all out. It's really awesome and very enlightening!!!! It's amazing what the companies don't tell you!!!!

It's called SkinDeep.... www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/

Let me know what you thought!!!!!

Yeah.

Johnsons stuff is all fragranced filled.....i never understood the whole frangrance for baby thing. I honestly use Cetaphil, and Aveeno adults...neither have any scent to them, and they have the same ingrediants.

Baby soap is all marketing to me. I use Johnsons shampoo, but not all that often, as julian really dosnt have that much hair!

I wonder if this site applies to the same products in Canada. I know that our system works differently than the FDA. Does anybody know?

It's really scary, too because there are tons of chemicals in products we use that have never been tested on the effects of humans.

...another good reason to shop to co-ops and buy more indie-type brands instead of the big corporate brands... also, no animal testing too I notice is really good.

One thing I wonder, is that many of the same people who are worried about the safety of the products they use, are also against animal testing, and of course it isn't ethical to test things of questionable safety on humans, so how would they determine if something is safe or not? What are things that say 'no animal testing' tested on?

There are a number of different processes that can be used for non-animal testing.

Some companies use already known to be safe ingredients.

I love Lush products, and they not only don't test on animals, but also refuse to use ingredients from other companies that is tested, which is apparently the big reason they don't do hair styling products. They also make a baby shampoo that they did some kind of cellular testing in a lab somewhere on, and there are a number of other companies that do that.

I always worry when companies say that because they tested on animals they know the product is safe...after all, they tested thalidomide on animals, and DES and that cancer drug that killed the human testers in London not long ago...
