I live in a college town, and kids will throw away stuff that is in perfect condition when they move out of their dorms or apartments, especially furniture.
Last spring we were driving through a ritzy neighborhood and saw three computers sitting next to the curb with other garbage. We thought for sure they'd be broken, but all three worked and had wireless cards and everything. We gave two away to charities and kept the other. We couldn't believe someone would throw them away.
Today we found a working iron, and a bunch of furniture that had nothing wrong with it next to the dumpster by our apartments.
What cool stuff have you found in the trash?

looking for boxes for moving when I was a little kid, my sister and I found retro superman bedsheets with nothing wrong with them.
I didn't think you could just throw away computers...?
Once my friends found a couch that they used in their appartment for years, in fact its still there.
I have found computers when the college kids leave. CD players, DVD players, cloths, food, shoes, toys, virtually anything you need you can find eventually.
We dumpster food, and sometimes cloths (if they're nice) and shoes.
I think that my best dumpster score EVER was these HAWTTTT pair of old skool doc Martens that are up to my knees and an off white color.
we got one of those kid's thick plastic picnic tables. one screw was missing or something and was super easy to fix.
You shouldn't.... you just bring them to special recycling places. There's one in Bloomington in my area.
i found a perfectly nice(almost brand new) changing table. and a lawn mower. theres this one road that i drive down to get to work and theres like anyting you need you can find in the trash otside.
this post reminded me of a comerical i saw the other day. usa network is doing this show us why you're a character where people talk about interesting facts about themselves. there was a guy on one the other day who makes a magazine called Found Magazine where he puts pictures of things he's found.
I just salvaged a super nice dresser from the trash. Apparently their kid had colored on it, so they decided to toss it. (But only after they removed all the drawer handles.... :? ) After I got it home, I noticed one of the drawers was missing a runner, but that shouldn't be hard to replace.
Anyway, I'm a DIY sorta girl, so I'm giving it a fresh coat of paint and handles. It's a hell of a lot nicer than my current dresser!
My BF/BD, though, told me that I'm "one step away from being a crazy cat lady."
We went to visit my parents last weekend, and there town was having "junk week", where everybody puts their old stuff at the side of the road and you can take anything for free. SO and I were laughing at each other because we couldn't help but eye every junk pile, even though we can't fit anymore stuff into our apartment.
When we moved out here, everything in our house was trash picked, except for the two duffel bags of stuff (mostly clothes & blankets) we brought on the plain with us.
Our pullout couch, our microwave and our freezer that we have now are all trash picked.
My ex-roommate found a working KitchenAid blender left behind as trash in a dorm. When he moved out, I "inherited" it.
my friend just found this beautiful couch. it was in perfect like new condition. i am so jealous.
