My name is Lisa, and I turned 19 last week. Tomorrow I'll be 11 weeks pregnant. :) I've had 2 ultrasounds so far, and will have my next at 12 weeks. It was so beautiful to see our baby (whom we call Duckling) dancing around the ultrasound screen, big heart beating. I got told about this community off a few ladies from the livejournal.com forum- pregnant. They recomended this site after I complained about not being able to find support for teens who are going through the same thing. I am sooo sick of having searched 'teenage pregnancy' in google and it coming up with info on abortions. Just because were teenagers doesnt mean we don't love and want our unborn babies. (Sorry I got a bit carried away there...pregnancy is making me rant!)
Well I hope we all get to share some wonderful stories and information together.
Anyone else from Australia?
Love Lisa.

Hey All, I'm a newbie from Victoria Australia.

Hey!
City or rural?
I live in Melbourne.
I'm an older mum now, 27 but became a mother at 19. Me & my partner now have 3 kids, my nearly 8 yr old son, my 4yr old son & my 14 month old daughter.
My housemate is a GM member too and is 20 with a 6 month old.
I'm also a midwifery student, about to return after a leave of absense and one of the things we midwifery students do is this program called "The Follow Through Journey" where we pair up with women for the length of there pregnancies up to the post partum visit. Some women have the student with them for antenatal visits, some even invite the student to their birth, but really any level of involvement is up to the woman. The student and the women get to know each other. I have been honoured with being at some of my Follow-thru's births, for which I feel truly appreciative.
Some of the benefits are you have an advocate dedicated to you and your needs. It lessens involvements with students who don't know you or takes the sting away from seeing a different practitioner each visit, which is hardly optimal, personalised care.
As I became a mother young and for my first birth was treated rottenly by the maternity care system I have a very strong focus on young mothers and ensuring the care they receive is respectful. (I spend a great deal of time on campus and in hospitals challenging my colleagues offensive attitudes). Even our textbooks are perpetuate the myths.
Anyway what I want to ask is if you are interested and live in Melbourne please feel free to PM me.
If you are giving birth in Melbourne chances are you will meet a midwifery student who would like to pair up with you, but please be aware, don't sign up unless you are sure the student is young mother supporting & respectful.
Anyway, enough waffling, welcome to GM, enjoy the journey towards motherhood.
and be kind enough to ignore my typos, I am terribly sleep deprived..
Hey, i'm Maja's housemate.
I'm a single 20yo with a 6 month old daughter (got pregnant with her when I was 19).
I had my first at 16 (which was when I found GM) but she was stillborn and I started trying to concieve not long after that.
It's ridiculous the amount of bullshit I came up against actively ttc.
Really angers me.
My midwives ditched me 5 days before I gave birth which I doubt would have happened if I were rich and middle aged, however I ended up having a fabulous waterbirth at home anyway.
If you need to talk about anything at all or have any questions feel free to PM me or just ask away.
Hi Lisa. Welcome to girlmom! This is a great community, I bet you'll love it here. Just so you know, girlmom is a prochoice community, so we don't usually use the term "unborn baby" because it has been used so much by the anti-abortion lobby. Check out our mission statement http://www.girl-mom.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4933, and maybe browse the announcements forum a little bit. This is a great place and I'm sure you'll find a great deal of support here. See you around the boards! :D
Hey lisa.. well i live in Western Australia such a beautiful place it is too. But anyways i just posted some stuff about me as my life in this section as well. I had my son when i was 15 years old ( he was born 3 months before my 16th birthday ) my partner of 3 and a half years is still with me and we are both deeply in love with our son who will be 2 on the 27th of may and im so excited :P hes the most gorgeous kid and has slept everynight since i bought him home from the hospital :D good luck with your pregnancy hope you dont get too much morning sickness because i never had any hehe.. Anyways chickidee goodluck!! look at my post as well
thanks for your welcomes all...
Hillary- i feel confused... what do I call duckling if I cant call it my unborn baby? That is what he/she is...
Bec- I'm glad your little fella slept so well for you! heres hoping I have it that smooth. I havent had morning sickness yet, and im 11 weeks, so I dont think ill be getting it. :)
Lozzy- We both wanted a baby, and its not like we were actively trying, but we deff wernt trying to prevent it either. I lost my daughter, Ally (with my ex) to a late M/C (went through a mini labour with her, so I despise the term miscarriage). I lost her 3 weeks after i turned 17. My partner Tim lost his daughter Katie (with his ex) to SIDS at 2 months of age, when he was 16, so we both know what its like to lose a child. I am sorry for your loss.
Love Lisa.
