I've decided that when I have to buy gas, I'm gonna buy CITGO. All the money goes into Venezuelas social programs. I'd rather help with infrastructure and healthcare than line some oil execs pockets.
haha. yeah, bean-o fo' power! All of my anarchisty activisty friends have been talking about it. I just looked it up on Common Dreams:
Quote:
Citgo is a U.S. refining and marketing firm that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Venezuela's state-owned oil company. Money you pay to Citgo goes primarily to Venezuela -- not Saudi Arabia or the Middle East. There are 14,000 Citgo gas stations in the US. (Click here http://www.citgo.com/CITGOLocator/StoreLocator.jsp to find one near you.) By buying your gasoline at Citgo, you are contributing to the billions of dollars that Venezuela's democratic government is using to provide health care, literacy and education, and subsidized food for the majority of Venezuelans.
It is owned by Hugo Chavez, who is "confronting poverty in Venezuela"
And of course not driving would be better, but Cae and I don't have a bike yet.
Thanks for the link: Before you put it up I ran a search with "Citgo, Venezuela" and ended up on some site describing a boycott of Citgo because supposedly Hugo Chavez (Venezuelan pres.) said "Enough of imperialist aggression; we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."
It was also calling him a 'dictator' because of his social reforms. WTF?!?! I think it sounds like he's doing GOOD things.
Thanks for calling attention to this. I think I'll switch to Citgo, too.
Thank you for posting that.. I actually tend to go to Citgo for gas but I'm going to make a point of going there exclusively.. Thanks again for the info :)
how'd you find that out?
p.s...from the post subject I thought this was gonna be a recommendation for bean-o or something. (don't ask me why that'd be in social justice, heh)

I also tend to go to Citgo since it's close to my apartment.
I don't know if I believe "all" of the money goes to these programs, though.
thanks for the info! i looked up the store closest to me and i'll start getting my gas there from now on.
