I don't know if this would be a privlege trigger or not, but if mods think it is feel free to add it in the title.

I am having such a bad day. For my bank account I thought I had like 20 bucks in there, i know thats not a lot but i wasn't planning on using it until I got paid again. then I used my card 3 times for really small purchases, like a coffee at the store or something, and next thing I know I got 2 statements in the mail saying that I overdrew my account! So I checked my online statement and I saw that they took out money for "atm processing fees" which I didn't even know exsisted, and they also didn't send me anything in the mail for so I didn't even know they did it. Then they took out an overdraft fee for each of the three purchases, which were all less than 3 bucks. Each time you overdraw your account, it takes out 33 bucks. That is fucking rediculous first of all, and second I wouldn't have even overdrawn if they didn't take out that random atm processing fee!! So now I am out almost 100 bucks because they really fucked with my account. I am sure that this is all within the guidelines or something but is there anything I can do? I mean, I don't even know if this is my fault or not, I know i shouldn't have let my account get so low but I really don't have a lot of money so I can't just have an extra 50 bucks sitting in my account just in case they decide to charge me some fees. I just don't know what to do and its really stressing me out because my paycheck won't be much more than what I owe, plus bd stopped paying c/s so basically I am screwed. Fortunately I can get help from my parents, but I already owe them money and this would just add on to it... This sucks. So anyone know what I should do?

did you use an atm?? cause all banks chare you if you dont use thier atms.

if this is the first time, you can usually get the charges taking away that put you into over draft..

and you need to get to a bank that has overdraft protection.

Skylar, I've been there and it sucks. When I go over my transaction limit for the month and use an ATM, not only does that ATM take the usual $1.50 off, but my bank does also.

I'm not certain if there is really anything you can do about those charges that you have incurred. Banks are sneaky little suckers and usually have something about the fees in whatever you signed when you opened your account. Actually, my bank just changed their fees, and has enforced them without me agreeing to anything.

For what it's worth, give them a call. Even if there's no literature on it, one can usually get out of things if persistent enough.

I've been in the same position before..damn atm fees.. argh. Anyways, since you didnt know about the chargesI would try talking to your bank.. I did that and they actually credited some of the fees so I didnt have to pay them, I'm not sure if your bank will do anything, but its worth a try..

Talk to them. It can't hurt, and they might reverse some of the charges. I had some service charges appear and I couldn't even figure out why, turned out they had changed the rules without telling me (!) so when I complained, the teller reversed half of them.

Oh another thing, does your bank have an option where you can check your balance online or by phone? If you check that regularly perhaps you could avoid this situation in the future.

well...1st do you have a 5/3 account cuz i ad 5/3 for awhile and they completly screwed me! like i had accidently overdrawn my account, but i went in and returned it which would wipe out all the fees...but they didnt. instead they charged an overdraft and $6 fees on top of it. but i didnt know i was overdrawn untill i overdrew again then they sent me like 5 statesments like 3 months later saying i was out over $300-$500 which is completly rediculous and 2 days later they started calling saying pay me or were going to close your account and charge you 3 times the amount you originally owed. so now im stuck with a closed account with like $1500 fee. so yea...it sucks.

I worked as a CSR in a bank, so I would totally recommend talking to someone at the bank.

Was the ATM fee for using another banks ATM, or was it for overuse of your card?

Some accounts only have 5 atm withdrawls, or Point of Purchase uses per month.

While you are in there, I would find out the ins and outs of your specific account. If you like the account stay with it and get yourself some online, or telephone banking. You will save yourself SO much hassle.

Secondly, you need overdraft protection. I think everyone should have overdraft or credit of some sort, so I'm not saying get rid of it.... But you have to keep track of it. Online banking and telephone banking should help.

If the banks are cutting you a deal, I would get a no fee account elsewhere. I have RBC accounts.... But I also have an ING account and a PC financial account. And I love them!

Hope this helps.

PM me if you need anymore help, or if you want an inside scoop on wording (to get what you want) for when you go and talk to the bank!

I got 19 dollar overdraw charges last month as well. Very annoying. My mom went in there (because the bank is only open while I am at school) and told them we didn't know of the charges and they took them away. Now I check my balance by phone or online before I use it because next time I will be charged.
