My son will be 14 months old here in a little bit. He has awesome baby jargon. He talks his own little language all day long. I'm not concerned that he's behind or anything yet because he's not talking yet. I know that he's still within the normal range.
So, he should say a first word soon enough I think. But I'm wondering, what are the best ways to teach and encourage language to a child in this stage of development?
He understand No, but doesn't always obey. And when i say "give "item" to mommy" he usually will put it in my hand.

damien started talking much later than zoe. but now, at 3.5 he is a story telling machine.
every kid develops at his or her own pace. i remember when damien and zoe were going to daycare at that age and there was a kid who could already spell his name and speak 3+ words at a time. i felt like my kids were way behind but they werent.
-Hold toys or objects near your mouth when you are trying to get him to say the word so he sees the way your mouth moves.
-Read to him a lot so he hears a variety of words.
-Try using sign language with him. You use the sign & say the word at the same time. He learns both but starts by just using the sign. then he'll start saying the word while he signs it. then eventually he'll drop the signs. Signing take a lot of patiance because it take a few weeks before they start using their first sign. but it pays off.
-I've heard talking in a slow sing-song voice helps too
I sign with Cae, I think it has helped him learn words alot.
I read Layla everything. Childrens books, the newspaper, magazines, novels etc.
I also exaggerate my mouth movements when I speak to her, and talk to her during REM sleep.
