Our toilet is stopped up and I guess it needs to be plunged. Can anyone tell me how to do it? Is the goal to force whatever it down there back up or force it down the drain with air from the plunger???
I don't think it's supposed to suck everything up or push it down, I think moreso plunging causes enough forced movement of water to help break apart something that's clogging the water flow. Usually when I plunge I don't see much actually come up into the bowl. Usually when I do it the water level drops a lot, though. When it drops enough that there's not much water in the bowl, I'll take my chance with flushing to test it because the levels so low that a flush won't overflow it if there is still a blockage.
You're supposed to put the plunger in the bowl right above the hole, and make sure the rubber is fully covering the opening. Push down firmly and carefully in strokes, keeping the rubber stuck to the opening.
If it's too big a blockage you might need a snake to get rid of it, but plunging usually works for regular blockage.
thanks! I'll try that. The water level is already really low. When I flush, it rises all the way to the top, the slowly goes back down to really low level of water in the bowl. But thanks for the advice, I"ll try it...f it doesn't work, at least I learned something new today, he he!
