What Phone Do You Have..

This is going to sound totally strange but id love to no what kind of mobile/cell phones all of you currently have. I love them and im constantly getting new ones because i dont no why, There are some pretty awsome looking phones around so yeah.
Ok so here goes i currently have a Samsung D600 its pretty awsome with the whole slide up design - one stupid preoblem about the phone is it always deletes the internet setings so i have to keep going back to the shop to get it re-programed with the internet settings.

I have a Sprint LG camera phone that has an internal antenna (which was very important to me). Clamshell style... I really like my phone but I think the next one I get will be a PDA of some sort with Windows on it. Too bad they cost like $500.

I'm sorry if this seems like a rude or stupid question, but how come so many people have cell phones? It seems ridiculously expensive for the odd time it might come in handy. I've never had one.

I use my cell phone for everything. I don't have a line at my apartment (I use cable internet). I would feel very insecure or naked without my phone. I need to have it during the day, for example, if I am on campus and Tavin is sick at daycare and needs to be picked up. There is no other way to get ahold of me. At this point there is no way in hell I would ever consider getting rid of it.

How is it ridiculously expensive? I pay $40/month for my plan (although I have some add-on features as well that are more, but those are extra and I pay for them because I like using those other features) and think it's super reasonable for 1000 daytime minutes (unlimited nights and weekends) which includes long distance and nationwide (including Canada!) service.

Yep - same as Erika...some people don't have a land line in their apt. Some plans are pretty reasonable, too. Plus, they just seem convenient to me, and the odds of you missing calls because you're not home might be less because your phone can always be with you. AND the added fun of text messaging just makes it that much more awesome haha.

I have a motorola razr. I like it b/cuz it's so thin, but I think whenever I get a new one it'll be a sidekick.
I have a cell phone mostly for emergencies, and it isn't so expensive either.

i used to be so against cell phones but then my partner gave me a phone - that happens to sound exactly like erika's (but it isn't sprint since sprint doesn't exist up here) - and i fell in love. soon after he gave it to me, i ditched my landline (that i never was home to answer anyways, and costs the exact same amt per month as a cell) and haven't regretted it one bit. i can text, be reached during class if the kid is sick/hurt (this is hugely important to me), be able to answer my phone when "daytime hours people" (aka the bank, my practicum employer, etc) call, have extra safety when i'm on the road in case something happens to my car or i get into an accident, etc etc. landlines are rediculously outdated, imo, and will likely be rarely used in the future.

one downside with a cell is that if you call 911 they won't know your exact location just from your call alone. so if something fucked up was happening, you couldn't just call and have someone come to your house regardless of if you are able to speak or not. as dorky as it is, i've practiced saying my address quickly but clearly so i can say it right off the bat (if able to), and when i taught my son how to phone 911 in an emergency situation, i told him to say "i am at [our exact address] and i need help" before saying anything else.

I worked for a law firm for a few years and ahving a phone was required. I wa sin the field, with clients, in court, day in and day out and asking to borrow someone's phone would have been very unprofessional. Pay phones are not easy to come by these days, like they were 5-10 years ago.

I have the most simple phone ever. No camera, I can't get "real song" ring tones, no internet access, and the only game I have is snake. My phone came free with my plan, so it was not a waste of money at all.

I've got a Sony Ericsson. No camera, not many frills. For me, the phone is a catch-22. I'm on pay as you go with Fido, since my credit sucks too much to get a plan. If I put $10 on it, I'm afraid to use it because my time will run out. If I put $50 on it, the month goes by and the time expires, and I haven't used half of it. I've put time on it three times (had it since Christmas). It's been almost three months and if I don't put time on it, it's going to expire. I'll have to let it expire since I don't have the money.

Usually, I don't have much need for a cell phone. But, if I am out and SO realises that we need something, it's much easier to call and have me pick it up than to drag all the kids to the store, or even wait until I get home and make the 20 minute walk to the store. If either of us drove, I don't think that would be much of an issue. Since I take public transportation, if I'm two minutes late for the bus, that means I'm going to be 32 minutes late to get where I'm going. It would be nice to be able to call the person I'm meeting and let them know what's going on. Instead, I take my chances that my appointment will still be there when I arrive late without calling or whatever. Not to mention what a help it is when my Dad's van breaks down when the kids & I are in it (which is almost everytime we are).

It's cheaper here to have a cell phone then to have a landline phone. I got cable internet so that I wouldn't have to have a landline. All I know is my phone is a Motorola, its red, and I have US Cellular for my company.

Its actually on my parents plan, but they're kicking me off in the Fall when their contract expires. Last time I checked into getting my own phone, I was told I would need a deposit of $200! I was looking into getting a phone for me and my bf at the time, so that would have been $400 deposit. I was like, forget that! I'll just stay on my parents plan and pay them.

The deposit is probably due to your credit (or lack of credit...). Check around with different cell phone companies and see what they want from you...number portability makes it super easy to change companies.

Keeping my same number doesn't really matter. I have an IL area code with my phone, but live in WI now, so it'd be nice if I needed to call home form work, I wouldn't have to dial long distance...and it wouldn't be long distance for my friends either.

There's only about 2 phone companies that I know of that I can get reception with here...US Cellular (who told me i needed the $200 deposit) and Alltel. Verizon and Sprint don't offer local numbers here, and right off hand, I can't think of any other companies.

I have a motorola razr. I only pay, highest, 40$ a month cause I got the employee discount. I like it because it doesn't take up much room in my purse, I can take pictures and videos. I don't use it often, but at least I know the daycare or SO can call if anything important is going down or if T's sick and I have to go get him. As well as, when I went to malls or busy places and separated from SO it's a ton easier just to call him up and ask where he is then walk around for an hour trying to find him.

I have the Pink Razr and like Naivete, I like that it's small and fits in my purse easily. It takes decent pics that I can transfer to the computer and I can put mp3 ringtones on it. I depend on my phone so much that I feel naked if I accidentally leave it at home. I use it for texting a lot too.

I don't spend much time at home so having a cell phone is convenient and handy to have in case of emergencies. I also run errands as part of my job and being able to reach the office or clients if I need to is important.

My boyfriend pays the cell phone bill, I'm not sure how much it is, but I think we have 1000 minutes shared and it's not expensive.

i dont have a land line. and to address kaya maybe its an US. thing but once you make a 911 call you change from regular service to EMERGENCY SERVICE and you can be tracked to your exact location. i havent seen any pay phones because bell south the major phone provider in my area pulled ALL pay phones. i pay 40 a month that includes long distance and local and its unlimited minutes. you cant beat that. not even with a land line. plus im not at home and you always need a cell phone, if you get a flat tire or get lost, or like all of us have children and need to be contacted. i have the basic nokia phone. no bling bling but i like it. come to think of it, i do not know anyone with a land line besides my mother and she also has a cell phone where you can reach her 90 percent of the day. oh and btw, my phone plan has no deposit and no contract. talk about amazing.

To who was saying they needed a deposit.. You could always go for a prepaid phone. No credit check and you just add on money when you need it.

I have a motorola i870. Its a nextel so its bigger but i love the two way and probably will never get rid of nextel for that reason. I hope they do come up with slimmer phones but for now the two way is it for me. Plus it was the only thing that worked on 9-11 since I live in the NYC area. All cell phone circits became overloaded and you couldn't call a cell phone. But the two way worked. I also have a feature that works like a walkie talkie if there was ever a major emergency and cells didn't work at all.

I've got the Nokia Shorty, and it sucks. Can't hear on it. It really is short, so I have to talk into it like a walkie-talkie--it won't reach from my mouth to my ear, and doesn't have the jack for a hands-free attachment. I got it because it was on sale.

The plan, however, is pretty cool: I've got Virgin Mobile, right now it's prepaid, but I can switch it to take 70 cents a day off and get free nights and weekends. ( I do that on the random weekend to catch up) Also, one day when I get a bank account, I can switch it up to a plan without paying a deposit.

In most places, land lines and cell phones seem to be pretty much the same cost, and the cell phones have a lot of perks--free long distance, use it for a planner, alarm clock, etc.

I've read that emergency service, in the US as well, can only track GPS to your general area, not right down to the exact location. So they can tell, like what couple of blocks you're in, but not exactly where you are.

I read a story about a girl in the States who had fallen into a river w/ her car, and called 911 from her cell. They GPS'd her to the general location but then she had to guide them to the exact spot she was by telling them when the sirens were getting closer or further away (like a hot/cold game.)

At work we use GPS from extra space of an Am. military satellite system, and although it's one of the most accurate, it's still not enough to pinpoint right down to an exact location. I'd imagine the Am. Mil. satellite system is probably a lot more advanced then telecommunications GPS as well.

I have a no frills Nokia.. I have no idea what the model it is but its just a regular phone (not a flip phone or camera phone) and its a little on the bigger side, but I really like it. It has good reception and holds a charge well which were the 2 most important things to me. It only cost me $10 when I renewed my contract (I go through US Cellular).

While we do have a landline, it doesnt have long distance on it and is pretty much just used for internet (we use dial-up), so our cell phones are how we communicate w/ pretty much everyone since all our family and most of our friends have long distance phone numbers. I've had my cell since 2002 and i couldnt imagine not having it, and its also came in handy on numerous occasions while traveling (accidents, car problems, etc..) Our bill is a little high (like $110/month) but thats with three different phone lines, unlimited incoming calls and cell-to-cell calls, as well as unlim ited nights/weekends after 7 pm, so we never have to worry about going over minutes.. and divided by 3, its only about $34/month per phone. I shold also add.. if I didnt have my cell I'd never know what time it was.. its my clock :)

Oh god me too. I hate watches, I hate having anything on my wrists. I tried wearing a snap on one once, but it broke. Without my phone I always feel so lost, like I can never tell if I'm going to be on time or not.

I don't like wearing a watch either, so I keep an old one with no band in my pocket.

I also use my cell as my clock and my daily planner/scheduler. I can't wait until I can afford one of the Windows PDA phone things.

And also, I have seen erinn's phone, and I have to say I love her keyboard thing. I wish I had that because it would make text messaging easier (even though I'm a texting pro anyway).

Count me in with those who use their phone as a clock/alarm clock. I rely on it to remind me to take my BC pill everyday. I love the features cell phones offer nowadays.

I remember my first cell phone back when I was 17. It was a Nokia and it was almost the size of a normal phone handset. The screen was monotone and you could change the outside faceplate and battery with other colors and you could put on antennas that lit up. I thought it was the greatest phone ever and I actually still have it somewhere in my room. Looking back it was a great phone, the only problems were that it took up a lot of space in my bag and that the battery would lose charge quickly if you didn't let it drain completely before recharging.

It looked like this: click

I find that I hardly call landlines anymore aside from businesses. Even at work, 90% of the time when I call clients, they answer their cell, but not their home phone.

I can't imagine what the technology will be like when our kiddos are our age.

I have a Sony Ericcson z520a... I kinda like it, I'm not sure. I had a nokia 3120 and threw it and it broke, so when I had to buy the phone I was feeling slightly guilty/resentful. It was also sooo much different than my old phone, so it took me a long time to get used to it. It plays mp3 ringtones so I love that - right now it's Dreams, by Fleetwood Mac.

I have a cell because I don't have a landline, so this is my only phone. Also, I live way out in the country in Idaho, so it's nice to have a phone while driving because if I broke down or something, it could be several hours before someone found me.

I just have a really old-school Nokia that I've had since forever. I like it fine. I'm on pay-as-you-go with Virgin Mobile but the only thing I find is that the tarriff is expensive. I think I'm 15p a minute (about 28 cents) and 10p to send text messages.

i have the motorola razr and i share a plan with my husband, we have unlimited minutes and texting, i think its like 80 bucks for both phones a month (plus the deposit we made and all the start up costs) we use Cingular service which works absolutely everywhere. i can remember the last time i used a landline phone!! the one thing that im sometimes bad about is charging my phone, but having a car charger solves that in most cases.
