well i finally got rid of the dreaded UTI that i had but now i have another problem. I noticed the day before yesterday that had thick mucous like stuff coming out in globs and i got concerned. I called the doctor and she said that it could be normal or it could mean that the cervix is softening which is not good. I went to the hospital yesterday and they admitted me up to maternity floor and i was put on fetal monitoring. The fetus is ok and has a strong heartbeat and was moving around the whole time and i wasnt have any contractions. They then did an internal and the doctor said that my cervix was indeed soft. So within the next 2 days i have to get an ultrasound to see if my cervix is long or short...if its long then that means that i may just naturally have a soft cervix the doctor said, but if its short then thats not good because that could mean that my cervix is getting ready for dilation..im really concerned because im only 25 weeks and im really scared about her coming this early. Did anyone else have the same thing and any idea what they might do to try and prevent the cervix from becoming any softer or dilating?? And if she was born soon, wuld she make it? Im just so nervous
Thanks in advance for any advice or comments

soft cervix...

i think i read somewhere that once a fetus is about 27 weeks old their lungs are capable of functioning, but with assistance if born early. so most likely if she was born early, she'd have to be in a NICU to regulate her lungs, heart, and other vital body functions.
sorry i dont know anything about toughening up a cervix.
i really hope all goes well for you. take care.
You may have what is called an incompentent cervix. A simple stich, yep they'll sew it closed, will help. Sometimes the weight of a baby is too much and it starts to open.
Also, many women start to dialate early on. Some of us, especially women who have had previous births or pregnancies have a cervix that always seems to be dialated around a 1 or so...I find it is quite common in my teen mamas. They just have soft cervix's and they don't deliver early.

I don't know if their is some way you can "toughen" the cirvix. I'm glad that you went to the doctor. That was a really wise decision. Losing big thick globs of mucous was what happened to me a few days before I went into labour, although it was at term.
well girls,i ended up in the hospital on wednesday with contractions...i was in preterm labor. They gave me procardia or something like that to help stop the contractions and i havnt had any since. The dr said that my cervix looks good...about a finger length long and closed w/no effacement. So now im on bedrest until at least tuesday and then i go back tuesday for a check up. Im still taking the procarida to help w/not having contractions. They also did an ffn? test..which came back negative which i guess means that i wont deliver within the next 2 weeks for sure. So hopefully everything will go smoothly from here on out...my baby shower is 2morrow so hopefully all goes well with that as well....
Thanks for the comments and support...ill keep you girls updated
Im glad they got your labor stopped, and good luck!
Being dehydrated is the number 1 cause of preterm labor. Be sure to keep drinking plenty of water. Also, vitamin C will help to strengthen your amniotic sak...about 500 I can't remember if it's mg's ,but what ever is available over the counter...Also, avoid nipple stimulation and keep your mood positive. There are support groups out there for bedrest mamas. Scrapbooking/Studying is what helps a lot of the gals I work with who are on bedrest. I was on the drugged bedrest...I just slept, so I didn't study or scrapbook...just drooled! ;)
But, doing positive afirmations helps also.
