Alexa talks about monsters a LOT! esp at night and whatnot, it happens when we are outside for the most part. but sometimes she will RUN from another room and say MOMMMY THERE ARE MONSTERS IN THERE AND THEY SCARE ME. so i go in and reassure her that there is 'nothing'. she doesnt watch too much tv anymore. so i really dont know where she gets all this from. i dont know what else to do. any ideas?

I don't know. Matthew refused to sleep without me in the bed the other night because he was afraid of shadows and ninjas. I don't know where he's actually seen or heard about ninjas, but they were going to get him if I wasn't there. I think it's just something they go through.
their imaginations are just forming at her age and i think it really revs them up sometimes in terms of what could be lurking in the dark shadows and such. i gave my kid a fine mister bottle with a bit of water in it for bedtime - it was his monster repellant. he also had a stuffed bunny who knew ninja moves who could protect him. both of those went over extremely well and gave him a little control over what he was probably going to imagine anyways.
i think the most important thing to remember is that to her, it is real, and to respect that. it can get tiring making sure they know that something isn't there when you know so obviously that its all fine, but doing that shows them you believe them and want them to feel safe and i think in the end that is what matters.
she'll grow out of it before you know it.
Maybe say "Awesome, let's go make friends!"
Eric often sees stuff, not like monsters or anything but he will say he sees a bus or something when there isn't one, stuff like that. Does she go to daycare? Eric picks up the most random shit at daycare. Like he said he has a big brother...? I have never said anything about a big brother so i was like... wtf but I asked his daycare provider and she said another girl was talking about her big brother the other day. So if she is in daycare or around other kids that could be it too.
I like that!
she did it again today, and i told her that i didnt think they were scarey and to 'show them to me' so we went in the other room and she said they were 'tiny tiny' and that they 'picked her nose' so um yah, then they were tickeling her. so todays monsters werent bad.
Awesome! my plan when monsters come up is to read where the wild things are, make some awesome monster friends and have a wild rumpus.
we read that book too, we also have monster stickers and have a monster finger puppet made of felt
xander is going through the same stage. it can be hard because he literally freaks out but... I like the idea of trying to make friends with him because reasoning with a two year old is not working lol.
That is hillarious, picked her nose. Seems like she just has an active imagination. Maybe ask her what they look like one time and then, make up a story with the monsters in it where they are all great friends and doing something she loves like swimming with monsters or playing games, etc.
monsters inc? austin loves that movie.
