anyways how common is it? what can i expect at the test? any advice you have would be great and appreciated.

com to think about i still havent had my pap done yet actually i never had one done
It sounds like they want you to come back in for a colposcopy. I had one done a little over a year ago after an abnormal pap. I know quite a few momma's on the boards have had them done so I'm sure they'll all chime in with their experiences as well!
The colposcopy isn't too bad. You'll experience some mild cramping and will have a brown/black discharge for a few days afterwards due to the stuff they put on your cervix to see it better. It's basically a longer pap test.
I had my abnormal pap in December 2005. The colposcopy was in January 2006 and it came back normal. I had to go back for a pap 6 months later, and that one came back normal. Then another pap in 6 months which also came back normal. So now I don't have to go back for 12 months. A lot of times an abnormal pap is a one time thing, but it should definately be checked out and need to keep an eye on it just in case it turns into something more serious.
I've had several abnormal paps, over 3.5 years, finally in 2005 to 2006 I had 3 normal ones when I went in every 3 months - January 2006 was normal and January 2007 was normal. I have had many colposcopies, biopsies, that procedure where they freeze the cells & laser ablation surgery.
I would suggest to start taking a multilvitamin - specifically prenatal and take B vitamins & folic acid. I did that & it helped A LOT. My doctor also prescriped me a vitamin they use for a lot of heart patients, it's called DiaTx. It helps repair cells.
Yeah I have had that too. I have had 2 colposcopys and I am due for another one soon. Yeah it is like getting a pap but it takes a few seconds longer and causes some cramping. Mine just keep coming back that I have "low grade cervical cell changes" so they need to keep an eye on it. From my understanding, its fairly common so I wouldnt worry about it.
I think a biopsy would come first right? Then a colposcopy.
Ive had many abnormal paps since i was 15, as well as a few colposcopies and LEEP procedures.
A biopsy is done during the colposcopy, but they don't always need/have to take a biopsy.
I have to have a colposcopy and if it shows lots of abnormal stuff then they do a biopsy. I am still a little worried but thanks for the advice!
Yah, they will put vinegar on your cervix - whatever turns white, is where they will take tissue from for the biopsy - then from there, it'll be tested to see whether it's low grade, high grade lessions or it can be other things, too. I mostly had low grade & high grade lessions.
I was worried, too - I had it for 3 years, after I started doing the vitamin thing, it helped A LOT. And it's been 2 or 3 years since my last abnormal one, woooooot! :) My sister had it a couple times, and now it's ben normal. My mom also had it after she had my brother & that was the only abnormal pap she had.
Don't worry about it too much, just keep up on the paps, tests, etc ... I think you should be okay :) Although, I did worry too.
My last colposcopy was at a free clinic in Minneapolis, right after I moved there (October 2003), when they did it, nothing turned white after the vinegar. So they told my family doctor & she did a pap a month later. I had some polyps on my cervix that she removed, then after that ... everything was normal. I went in every 3 months for a year - all normal, then the past two years - it's been yearly.
At the free clinic, they even let me watch it! Like, they had a video camera & everything, it was actually kind of cool.
