so i dont know if any of you remember but me and my doctor are not really on the same page about anything. n e way today i went in for a checkup and we were talking about the delivery i explained to her that i would like not to have an epidural and to definitely not have an episiatomy (sp). n e way her response to me was she does not know why some women act so stupid and stubborn about the epidural and that it is one of the greatest things yada yada then she says that it is easier for her to stitch me if she cuts me rather than if i tear. i told her that i did not tear with gabriel and the doctor also wanted to do an episiatomy but because i was fully aware i screamed at him and he did not do it. she is just so fucking annoying and i cant even really change doctors because i have this fuckin medicaid plan and the next closest doctor is like and hour and 30 min away and who knows if they would be any better. she just makes me really dread gong into labor.

That's horrible. It sucks that you aren't able to switch doctor's. Nobody should have to feel that unsupported in with their birthing plans. It sounds like you won't be talked into something you don't want, which is good.

But, just in case she tries to take advantage of you being less aware because of pain/tiredness/whatever, you could write up a birth plan with your wishes, photocopy it, and give a copy to her and any nurses that come into your room during labour/delivery (while keeping a copy for yourself).

Do you have a support person for the delivery? If so, make sure they understand not to allow the doctor to do anything without your permission, no matter what.

get a doula! if you can. many will do it for free or little money if they know what kind of situation you're stuck in.

i can't believe some people!!!

I second writing up a birthing plan and taking photocopies. And even looking into a doula is a good idea. You sound determined to do it your way which is great. Good luck.

I second getting a doula! You definitely need a good, trained advocate. Also, try and labor at home as long as you can.

a word of caution about birth plans. without someone there besides yourself to help enforce your wishes you'll not have a great chance of having them met. hate to sound discouraging but your doctor obviously thinks that she's saving you from some kind of terrible traummatic event and that you don't know enough to do it properly (make her job easier UGH!)

also, see if you can let her know about your plans before delivery unless you think it would just make her more determined...

Well if you let her know while you give her your plans that you do know your rights and you will sue if she does medical treatments that you've already informed her you do not want, you have a better chance of her following it, but I second that having an informed support person in the room will help a lot. (Spend some time talking to them, so they know what they're looking for, such as if doc is about to do an unwanted episiotomy they know that hey, scalpel in that area = time to yell out not to do it, etc)

with gabriel i also had an asshole doctor but my sister was there and was really great. i had repeatedly told the doctor that i did not want to do an episiatomy but he was about to do one anyway they kind of got into a screaming match and by the time they were finished gabriel was crowning. i tore a tiny bit and didn't even need a stitch. my sister was saying that she thinks legally if i tell the doctor that i do not want an episiatomy that they are not allowed to do it. but i am not sure i know i have to sign a consent for a c-section though. it's just really annoying that i have to deal with this crap. i already explained the plan to bd... if she comes within 2 feet of me with a scalpel take it from her or something lol. but seriously i hope it goes okay.

You know what I think. I think you should not give birth with her. Even if you don't change doctors, you could "happen" to go to the wrong hospital or get there too late and forget to call her. You shouldn't have to give birth with someone you don't like.

When I had Peyton I was seeking a doctor in downtown Houston. I really didn't care for her all that much and when I went into labor I ended up going to another hospital because my water had broke and I didn't know if I could make it the hour and half down there.

But I do second that you have a birth plan written out and someone there to stand up for you and back you up. DH was there and he made sure that they did not do an episiatomy.

with Ariana I tore badly and required stitches but with Peyton I only tore a little bit and was fine. It does really suck when you are with a doctor that you don't like.
