Did anyone who's FF enter this contest? Enfamil is holding a contest with a grand prize of $5000 for your baby's first birthday. There are 3 secondary prizes of $500. I'm thinking of entering it. It's money that I could use for Daunte so hey, why not?

Umm yeah. But it's for Canadian residents only, apparently. There are peel off stickers on the Enfamil boxes of the formula you add water to.

Sorry, I forgot to add that there's a zip code you have to enter, and if you don't have access to a computer (which I'm assuming most G-M's do) you can also mail in a form and there's a 200 word essay you have to write about "Why My Baby Loves Enfamil". I entered twice, and will probably enter everytime I get a box with the sticker because this money can come in handy for next year.

I think this contest is fairly disturbing.

That comment could probably come off as offensive. I just have a problem with marketing... but I don't have a problem with taking the money. Go for it.

Idk why people waste their time reading this and then posting negative comments?...I know it's an open topic for discussion, but you would think you wouldn't waste your time on it when you can go and talk about your breastfeeding somewhere else, because I'm assuming you breastfeed by the tone of your comment.

This site is and always has been pro breastfeeding, I don't see the harm in discussing contests put on by formula companies. Anything posted on GM is up for discussion, and she wasn't being mean about it

I think that was pretty uncalled for, Krista. I don't think she was being snarky or judging you for ff. I honestly felt the same way, that the contest was a bit disturbing. (And BTW, I ff all three of my children at some point before a year, my oldest was never breastfed). WE've had discussions on here before about infant formula companies marketing their product as "the best thing for babies", and their underhanded tactics in trying to get as many parents to ff as possible. GM is a pro-breastfeeding site, this is the right place to be questioning things like that.

I understand feeling like you're being judged for ff, like I said I ff my oldest from birth, so I really do get it. But honestly, it didn't sound like mamabutterfly was judging ff moms at all. This isn't a breastfeeding mamas vs bottlefeeding mamas issue, the issue is with the formula company and the contest it's holding.

Well it's not like I'm telling anyone to ff their kids...I was just saying how since I'm already ff my youngest son, I thought it was neat. I wanted to see if anyone else is ff using this brand. I guess I'll just shut up about it then. Whatever.

Question: If this is supposed to be a site that's a safe space for mamas to feel unjudged by their choices, why is it pro breastfeeding only? I'm not trying to say that something needs to be changed but has it ever been addressed that maybe since the site runs by bf, then how are ff moms supposed to get the same kind of mutual support for their choices? I think it's a bit unfair...

I don't get how it went to who is entering in a contest for free money to .. that is disturbing . ...

this contest is not promoting formula feeding. it is just giving a bonus for the ones who do (for whatever reason they do weither it is by choice, or medical reason, or just supplementing)... who would actually go out and buy it just to enter in a contest.. not many.. but if you already buy it .. its like a who-hoo kinda thing.. just like cokerewards where it gives you points you can redeem for prizes and cash

enfamil doesn't promote itself at better then breastfeeding.. even on the package it says "The closet formula to breast milk" ...... on their webside it talks about Breast feeding. benefits of and how to and help for different.

there are many different contests and scholarship and prizes for breast feeding moms why should they get all the free money/supplies?

Formula feeding can be HARD too. there are many complications with it. I understand that this is a pro-breast feeding site .. but how many moms on here haven't had a bottle or two of formula .. why should we be looked down on for whatever reason we had or choose to ff. how many moms on her have wished they could bf. but cant for various reasons.......

I think this topic got blown out of proportion. MamaButterfly wasn't judging just saying she didn't like the contest itself but hey if you use it go for the free money. Goodness knows us mama's could do with free money!

i think whats disturbing about it is you are entering a contest about why your baby loves enfamil.

A. you don't know if your baby loves enfamil ( in comparison to anything else)
B. your baby can't talk
C. your baby can't CHOOSE enfamil over other products.

so basically you are writing a 200 word essay that is just making up random stuff to pretend that they are reasons why your baby loves enfamil so you can get money.

get the money - i'm totally for that.

but it should be like "why I (as a mother) choose enfamil over other brands of formula - not "my baby" because the babies dont buy the formula, the moms do.

its not so much distrubing though, as it is a silly concept.

and starlightblaze. Nobody came down on your for FF, or even mentioned it before you started getting super defensive. but your posts seemed kind of blown out of proportion.

This site has always been PRO-BFing. Not exclusively for BFing mothers. Breastfeeding is best. Period. So yes we endorse the best posible choice for kids. There is nothing wrong with that. If you chose to FF (and I only BF for a short period of time and then FF) then that is your choice. We like to educate mamas on all the options and then let them make the decision that is best for them.

Plus the entire world is pro FF. You get FF handed out in the hospital, you get doctors questioning your ability to nurse, you get faced by sneaky formula companies (who exploit women in developing countries, by the by) and barely anywhere to turn for accurate nursing support, you don't get treated like you're indecent and disgusting for giving your bub a bottle in public, you don't get asked to leave places for using formula, the entire world is a place of support for formula feeders, that is why GM offers support for breastfeeding.

(and I formula fed with Trey too, I only nursed for 4 months with him. Recognizing breastfeeding as the best possible choice and recognizing the underhanded tactics of formula conglomerates does not mean you are anti formula feeding or even a breastfeeder.)

totally!

GM supports breastfeeding because GM is a feminist web-forum. Breastfeeding mothers are a marginalized group. Yes, some woman who FF catch crap from time to time from observers. But, they're not asked to cover up out in public or asked to get off airplanes.

Another thing we do on GM is recognize and acknowledge our privileges.

There are a lot of disgusting marketing tactics out there. "My Baby loves Enfamil" is another way of saying "if your feeding you kid another brand, you're missing out".... And those woman who are being mistreated because of BF who see the adds for "my baby loves Enfamil" might just decide to try enfamil first when they decide BF isn't worth the way they're treated. This add is geared to any parent of a baby or pregnant woman.

i don't think you need to be sorry, and i feel bad that it seemed to you like everyone was jumping down your throat. we're such an excitable bunch here, we just really want to share knowledge and experiences and i think it came out the wrong way or was misinterpreted. i think everyone's reactions were aimed at the formula company, and not at you. just wanted to clarify that.

Actually, it is. It's the entire point to it. There is a complex subliminal message in the idea that we could associate money with happiness and happiness with formula feeding. It's all to promote FF, weather you see it or not.

Does that mean you shouldn't go for the money if you are already a FF mama? Nope, you should, why not? But this contest is a FF promotion.

ya sorry about that. i would also like to note that what i meant by "its disturbing that YOU are entering a contest" i didnt really mean YOU (starlightblaze) i dont find it "disturbing" that you are entering the contest - i was just trying to clarify what someone might have felt about the contest being disturbing.

and it does promote FF totally 100%
that's why they give it away for free

I never mailed in my entry. The essay only works if you can't enter online. When you enter online, all you do is type in a PIN that comes on a sticker on the formula box, and you don't have to write an essay.
