hi i will be flying with my son in april when he will be one years old. the last time i flew with him he was 5 months old and slept through the whole trip. the trip is 4 1/3 hours non stop and he will be in his own seat in a car seat. i am going by myself though so my husband wont be there to help my carry anything. what do you suggest? any tips would be greatly greatly appreciated!! thanks in advance i am scared lol
I flew with my son when he was 18 months old. On the flight out, some of my family was with me, but on the way back, it was just me and him. In addition to the tips in the above threads, I'd suggest bringing an umbrella stroller as a carry-on, and during layovers or when the plane lands, you can put your child in the umbrella stroller and hook the carseat over the back of the stroller's handles (sounds complicated, but it's actually pretty easy, and it saved me a lot of hassle during our layover, since I had to get all the way across the airport w/ no help!).
Oh, and in your poll, I voted for buying your child a separate seat, if you can afford it--my son had a separate seat (my mom bought my tickets or I wouldn't have been able to afford it, hehe) and he slept for half of the flight out and half of the flight back, which he probably wouldn't have done if he'd been in my lap. Also, since he was used to riding in the car anyway, he knew that being in a carseat meant he had to stay put--if I hadn't had a seat for him, he probably would've been wriggly and fussy, wanting to get down and run all over the place! Some people just buy one seat and bring a carseat, in case the flight isn't full and there's an extra seat, so that may be an option too.
