Ok, so I have been having issues deciding what car seat to buy next. Our options (all two of them) are between:
a front facing seat which goes to 80lbs in a 5 pt harness (yes I am the mean mom who will make my kid be in a carseat until she outgrows it), the only seat with a 5 pt harness to that wt. We will never need a booster with this seat.
or
a convertible seat with "added side impact protection" which goes to 65 lbs in a 5 pt harness. The good thing about this seat, (aside from the side impact, but my car seat tech says they are basically the same in that manner) is that if we have another child, this seat will work for s/he also whereas the front facing one will not.
... Should I buy the seat that will last for more than one kid (who may never exist) or the one my DD can be in until she is ... probably 10? If we got the ff seat we would need a convertible for baby #2 but if we got the convertible we'd need a booster for DD.
By the way DD is 2 and 27 lbs.

I mis understood the poll so I clicked the first one. I would say buy a convertable, or a seat that has belt positioners for when she is bigger. She needs the 5-pt harness right now, but as she gets bigger a belt positioner will be more comfortable for her.

I'd go for the second one.

And I don't think I passed 80 pounds until ninth grade and my parents would have had a hell of a time getting me to sit in a car seat or booster at that age!

I thought I was going to keep Hayley in the harness until the 40lb weight limit...and then she hit 31lbs and I went ahead and bought the booster even though her carseat was meant for the 5pt harness and as a booster. Id go for the convertable. Theres an independance to them being able to unbuckle themselves when you get to where youre going. And its a whole lot more enjoyable for them, esp when it comes to long car rides.

If shes 27lbs what is she in currently? And like someone mentioned already, 80lbs is the size of a 10-14yr old. Here in AZ the recomendation is AT LEAST 60lbs and 8yrs of age.

She's in a convertible we are borrowing from a friend (it's a safe seat). I totalled my car and the company replaced my seat, but I sold that one because I want an upgrade I just cannot decide what seat to get.

I would get the 5 pt. harnes but I'm a freak. Unless you plan on having a child in the next 3-5 years. When we get a car I'm puting 3 pt. harneses in all seats.
