This topic has probably been over done, but I want some up-to-date responses.
I am looking at ordering a sling online shortly. I am looking at a New Native sling. They look pretty sturdy, and functional, and are nice to look at. I had a Snugli with Julian, but I wasn't to happy one it.
Anyone else use the New Native and have any postive/negative reviews to share? Anyone super impressed with another make of sling?
Thanks!

Personally I'm not big on pouches - never actually tried one though, so take that for what it's worth - I just don't like that they're not adjustable and have to be just the right size. Is there anywhere you can try one on IRL?
Reviews for New Native Baby Carriers are here:

They seem pretty good!
Personally I'd go with a ring sling though, for adjustability, but that's me.
The only advice I have is to research your options before choosing. There is so much out there, and there is no one choice that is best for everyone, ya know, so you need to look at pros and cons to each (maybe including ring slings and wraps and mei tais and soft-structured carriers into your search along with pouches).
Good luck! :)
My favorite kind of carrier to use when my son was little was made by a company that doesn't exist anymore, but it was similar to this kind that I found advertised on google.
Also, If you're considering buying a New Native sling, I'd encourage you to read this post by naivete, and maybe look into either buying another brand of pocket sling or buying one second-hand (like on ebay or something).
O shit. I read the post. and I realized, that I had even commented on it. D'uh. That was smart of me. I had ruled out the New Native because it was un-adjustable/out of my price range....I am glad that I didn't go for it.
The original post was a good one. Any getting Naivete back to these boards?
I would LOVE to see her here posting again. She's definitely one of my favorite mamas ever.
She has a livejournal. A lot of old members do. That's how I keep in touch with them.:)
I am a fan of Rixa's second womb ring slings, and then mei teis for when the babes is heavier. :)
So i have narrowed it down to the ring sling or a mei tei.
What I wondered about the mei tei....
How is it different than the snuggli? I stopped using the snuggli because I heard it was bad news...but the Mei Tei appears to be the same position? I may be wrong....is it more user friendly, is the baby more comfortable?
The Maya wrap is pricey!!! I am going to look into a WAHM ring sling....wow, I was shocked at the price!
And I would also love to see Naivete posting here again. She always had the most interesting topics. Good source of knowledge.
Mei tais are different from Snuglis for the LO because they are in a seated position rather than a standing-ish one and having all their weight on their spine, which is bad for their development. Starting around 3 months-ish, you wrap their legs around you when you wear them. Before that, you "froggy" their legs. (Check out youtube for examples of this.)
They are different for mama because the straps are wider and there is a waist strap to spread out the weight; this makes it far far more comfortable.
If you join diaperswappers and check out the baby carrier section of fsot for used ring slings, they are pretty affordable. I got a 2nd hand Maya ring sling there for $25usd - after currency conversion and extra couple dollars the seller wanted for shipping to Canada, it was I think 35-ish Canadian - still less than half the price for new. There are used wahm ones often listed for 15 there even.
You can get deals on used mei tais there too. Also thebabywearer, but you need a certain amount of posts there to see the fsot boards, so that sucks, whereas with diaperswappers pretty sure you don't.
I know of a couple reputable WAHMs in Southern Ontario that sell both ring slings and mei tais, LMK if you want links.
Also look into babywearing safety with newborns. Basically, aside from common sense, you need to make sure their chin is not touching their chest and that their head is not covered by the baby carrier. Specific examples for the kind of carrier you choose here:

anyone know anything about slinglings? i found a good deal on a padded pouch sling. http://www.attachedtobaby.com/Slinglings-C37.aspx
I never even thought about getting a sling until the other day. I was basically giving Dev a piggyback ride and I put a towel around him and was able to easily carry him like that. We both liked it. Now, I am taking him on a plane ride and thought that having him attached to me may be easier than lugging a small stroller around. Especially getting from one end to the other at the Atlanta airport in 45 minutes.
Any thoughts/advice? He'll be 2 in October, but he's a small two year old between 22-25 pounds.
Using a towel would be similar to using a short woven wrap (like a Bara Barn) or a rebozo, both of which would be adjustable. Personally for older babies and toddler I'm all about the 2-shouldered carriers like mei tais. But there are so many options and it depends so much on the individuals.
Your best bet IMO is to look at all the different kinds of carriers and then look at reviews for the specific brands on thebabywearer

The slingling pouches have great reviews:

Thanks! I didn't want to run out and buy it and hate it. I really need something I can quick throw on and off (ok as quick as possible with an almost 2 year old) and easily fit on the plane. I am worried that I may have to run from one end of the Atlanta airport to the other and I just don't think a stoller can do it.
Personally I think mei tais are fairly quick in and out, but def. not as quick as pouches or ring slings. A short woven or rebozo could be pretied to work the same way as a pouch (or ring sling, depending on the type of knot used). Still, a pouch would be faster to get the hang of because it wouldn't involve any knot-tying.
I bought my sister in law a ring sling from a all natrual company online. I beleive that she didnt like it for a newborn because she was worried about safety but her son is about 8 months and she loves it now. I am also a fan of the ring sling as you can use it in many different ways.
I looked up the reviews and I bought a slingling! I am pumped to get it in the mail and try it out. I could have used it today... Devin has a high fever and the works.
Aww, hope your little guy is feeling better soon. And congrats on the sling. Let us know how it goes!
Slings are so nice for sick kids. I used mine when Cae was sick way after he stopped being cool with hanging out in as a well child.
I LOVED my wrap when Blake was a baby. I could just pop him in and out.
Now that he is older, I love the becco. I have been using it as a back carry for over a year now. I actually am thinking about getting a new becco II for him for his birthday, since he still loves riding on my back.
